B was off to work, while I was doing Monday morning marketing I got a call from Anna the trainer saying Switch had broke out in some oozing welts. I sent the pictures to Britt and her vet and I arranged to pick her up and take her to Moore's for a 4 pm appointment.
Out in the warm no wind sunshine I hooked up the horse trailer, got the timers and soakers going on all beds and set up the doggy pool.
A picture was worked on for another giveaway this time on Instagram. I was all hooked up, items loaded and was ready to go but the dogs were not home so I took treats to the field to coax them in but Cooper would not come inside so I had to let Lola out and hope they had common sense to stay at home. I seen 2 large dogs cruising the east fence line earlier this am and called the neighbor to let her know her dogs were on a walk about again.
I made a quick stop in town to pick up a small chairside table I won in an auction arriving to pick up Switch just after 3. I got the low down and loaded her up and we were on our way to what we thought was our 4 pm appointment with B and her vet. It seems the booking gal put us for 4:30 so we had a half hour wait, in 27 degrees, good thing for their big trees to stand under.
The exam, blood work and diagnosis were done fairly fast once they arrived. The blood test confirmed not infectious or viral which was good. Allergic reaction to bug bites was the diagnosis and we left with Dexacort powder to go hose, apply Swat, spray and a fly sheet once home.
Seeing I like to make the most of trips, I swung by Costco to grab a few plants and groceries. Once back home, Switch was unloaded and taken in the barn to try and get food made up to dispense the meds. She did however not like it at all. Britt arrived home soon after I did and gave me a hand. She got the hibitane solution and after I hosed her, she scrubbed the wounds. I put on the swat and B the fly sheet. Still she would not eat the food so we left her in the stall with it while we went to unload the truck and grab a bite to eat.
It was such a lovely night but the mosquitoes were INSANE, first blood letting of the year. I can't imagine what bugs attacked Switch as tonight these little buggers were vicious. We set up the hose in the arena for her to ride and while waiting for it to soak she brought in Roo to work with as well as some time in the round pen. I moved the horses out of the paddock nearest the house and took Switch out to it after we mixed a new batch of drugs with water and syringed it in her mouth. B caught Bird and while she rode I scooped cat poop ;( ran water to the farthest paddock tub and filled Switch's shelter with minerals/salt.
It was about 10 when we came in to hit the shower and relax after a busy day.
