the cool down begins

Brr dreary cool day today with a wake-up call before 8 from a farm equipment salesman, gee thanks! I guess I should be thankful we are only getting bouts of rain as Calgary and west is getting snow!

Project progress:

the nightstand got its final coat of finishing creme and once dry hauled in to stage and post

the coffee table was sanded well, another coat of paint put around the outside with bonding agent then once dry it had 2 coats of antiquing top coat added thru the day drying well between coats.

I manage to unload the furniture still in the truck bed before it got dark. I decided I have not enough time and room for the adult table set so offered to another painter gal in town. Now to get busy on the dresser. It seems I should have opened all drawers when I picked it up but the one I didn't happened to have an old mouse nest!! So straight back out the garage door to dump all in a trash bag and tie tightly and dispose then a good scrubbing. I HATE mice with a passion and even thought it was just nest fluff, and was sprayed and scrubbed I still wash my hands about 5 times when all done!! Next step was to remove the damaged veneer and more hand washing :)

yep it is crooked, the right caster is bent so I worked on straightening that out too

the poor damaged veneer and the progress of removing the loose bits,

I feel bad for the poor thin wood being peeled off but in the end the dresser will be pretty again

I LOVE how people used to document their purchases inside a furniture piece, this says Fri. June 25, 1948 name and Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada!

Back inside I worked on mathematically placing nails for a star on my old barn door. More credit goes to google vs my high school geometry classes ;)
