crackle medium blunder

I made coffee today trying my theory as to why I like my morning coffee better with these beans. I think it is the tap water I use vs the RO Prince does. The morning was overcast but the sun did come out eventually. I got busy in the garage working on projects. For the dovetail wood box I chose the new stain & oil finish in driftwood.

I mixed up some light cream milk paint and gave the quilt rack a coat. I pulled out some neat wall art pieces I wanted to give an old look too. I chose to stipple fresco on first then use the rest of my soft blue milk paint over it once dry.

Sheldon worked on his lap top for most of the morning but did head out before lunch to pitch hay for the horses and prepare stuff for his bison head work. After we ate a quick lunch he was back out and had it skinned up in no time. He did try hauling the head around but chose to dump the "liquid" close to the round pen. More to follow that decision later.

I put two more cream coats on the quilt rack , sanded the box and dry brushed a few fun colors on it too. I painted a little something on the one end and waxed the inside with white wax.

As Prince was having his after lunch nap the wind started to pick up.It blew Miss B home about 1:30. She was super excited to be home after having dog wards last w/e. Her after noon was spent snuggling Coco and getting ready to head to Lethbridge tonight.

Sheldon has had eye issues and feels a bit off so had a bath. I tagged pieces so ready to go to the booth. After 5, young master Grady, just home from his 6 months in Australia arrived to pick up Britt. A quick hello and they were off to surprise friends as to his arrival back home. As he pulled in Lola had a coyote on the run and after they left and I was making supper more arrived.. due in part to Prince's dump close to the house. He took a few shots at the infiltrators but only scared them off. He then hit the TV room to watch Flames while I was off to the garage.

First order was to put the crackle medium on the wall sconces as they have to wait 2+ hours. Then it was time to sand the quilt rack and hemp oil it. I also hemped the outside of the driftwood box. I hauled the roll top desk out of the car and got to examining it after I loaded all my pieces to go to the booth. Yep repairs and some changes. Easiest one was to remove the material that had been put on the slide out shelf. MANY staples later it was off only to find all the original nails still left in. SO with a wee screwdriver I removed all of them too. I did find a scrap of the original black burlap type material.

As I was working I heard a snap crackle sound. Sure enough after a few more I found the wall sconces paint popping off. It has been 2 1/2 hours now and almost dry however this was NOT what was to happen lol It seems the medium shrinking caused the fresco and paint to lift and crackle off. Darn it, time to call it a night. Time to write up blog and catch a few more Switched At Birth.
