Rental renos day 2

At 2 am, bizarre noises came from outside our window, waking both S and me. S, clad only in his underwear, went out and spotted a fox in the barn paddock, with J at the gate and Stella on the deck. The fox seemed to stroll away nonchalantly. Afterward, S came back inside, got dressed, and decided to secure Stella and J in the shop. It appears that the fox has once again become a target.

The wind made an unwelcome return today, despite the sunny skies. Not many appreciate a breezy day unless sailing is involved, I suppose. Following our routine morning, I ventured outside to replace Roo's mask that she had removed overnight, donning my fluffy blue housecoat. Once properly attired, S and I set out to weed the in-ground garden. He added spa cleaner to the hot tub, setting it to run for an hour on high and then 23 hours on low. We hammered in three T-posts, cut a wire to length, and secured it to create a trellis for the peas, cucumbers and zucchini. I pruned the three spirea bushes in the back flower bed and removed some unsightly thistles. S took down the burlap fence and started mowing around the garden's perimeter, only to accidentally run over the black rubber roll with the lawnmower. Yikes indeed.

S chose leftovers for lunch, opting for a chili cheese hotdog, while I selected a chicken sandwich with freshly picked spinach. After lunch, we loaded up Harley and set off for town to work on the rental property. First, we picked up Cooper, then dropped off a box of jars and collected onion seeds from Anita—the lady known for sharing delicious food/jams with us. She also provided egg cartons for Matt. At the rental, the dogs kept us company while we worked. I cleared out the trash from the house, household items they left behind, loaded the leftover junk and paint cans into the truck, while S used the weed eater on the alley and backyard. He also removed the baseboards at the front door and lower stair landing that were swollen from dog urine. It's astonishing that 80% of the baseboards were affected. It's actually ridiculous. How can one live in a home with such unsanitary conditions caused by pets? And to think that they might expect to receive their damage deposit back is bewildering.

This looks like spray foam but it is actually puffed up MDF from urine soaking!!!

How do people live in an ammonia filled home? for years?

every single room, you can see the urine drips down the wall and over the baseboard

It is shocking to say the least that this is their daily hygiene and move out clean standards

I removed garish purple curtains that were covered in a 1/4 of dust and fluff

The countertop is stained, burned (even though rental contract no smoking inside the home) and gross mold behind the sink!

And when scrubbing the laundry room floor it was found to have dried dog feces stuck all over it!!!

We disposed of the leftover items, plastics, and paint cans at the recycling center. On the way home, we stopped at the gate and sawed off several dead branches from the large tree since we had all the tools with us. I walked the dog back to the house while S went to get the mail. After feeding H, I gave her and Cooper treats to savor in the sunshine. The wind has calmed down somewhat, and it's now 20 degrees outside.

For supper, tacos were prepared using homemade chili powder and taco seasoningboth of which are staples in our kitchen. It's such a favorite meal for its deliciousness. Afterward, I planted shallots and onions in our large garden, which led to additional weeding and the hand watering of our raised beds and garden planters. S began weed eating, and as I was hand weeding, B came to quickly tend to her horses before leaving. Subsequently, I pruned the trees while S finished mowing the lawn. A strange metallic noise caught my attention; it turned out S had accidentally mowed over the tape measure left out from measuring wire earlier in the day. It took some time, but I managed to locate all the scattered pieces.

6" measurements only now :)

I came in after 9 from doing some accounting and then worked on the blog while watching Netflix in bed. S completed the mowing, then started the hot tub circulation before coming in to shower. He then realized it was poor timing to change the hot tub water, as Calgary and Strathmore are currently under a water rationing request. Oops. No hot tubs in our future for a while.
