Today is a significant day for the prince as he enters a new decade at 60. When you're young, age is a big deal. You yearn to grow up quickly, to drive, visit bars, and move out. People over 40 seem old, and those over 60, ancient. But when you reach that point, you realize your heart still feels 20. Despite numerous aches and pains, Sheldon is ready to embrace his new era with vigor.
He decided to begin this chapter by camping at the rodeo grounds. Waking up late, he savored a cup of coffee and took it with him to the 10 am rodeo meeting. Meanwhile, I fed Harley and worked on the blog post. When he returned, we put on our boots, jeans, and cowboy hats—which were especially useful in this year's heat—and made our way to the infield. We took a loop thru the suites again and saw the stock and riders prepping out back.
The rodeo was quite lengthy, beginning at 1 PM and not concluding until almost 5 PM. The heat was intense, reaching 29 degrees, and running the north gates under the direct sun made it feel even hotter and dustier. Thankfully, there was an unlimited supply of cold water bottles.
Back at the trailer, we enjoyed chips, salsa, and a cold drink. When Kaylin arrived, we hopped into the ranger and headed across the track for supper (thanks, Kaylin), and sat in the cattle chute as usual. Sadly, the first heat was marred by an incident where a horse from Kaylin's winning team went down after passing the finish line—a somber start to the races, but fortunately, things improved thereafter.
After returning to the trailer, we decided to meet up with Amanda and Connor at the station, which turned into a memorable cake and beverage gathering. Later, I drove us through a checkpoint to Origin's birthday party. The party was bustling and eventful.
I managed to get the three of us back to the trailer safely after 2 am. Afterward, Sheldon took some time for a shower and a shave. Crazy birthday boy. Kaylin and I headed to bed with me watching some Macleod's Daughters for a bit.
