Renn slept in late today, not waking until 8:45! Of course, once she was up, she greeted everyone with that big smile of hers. I made French toast—or pancakes, as Renn had been told she was having—for breakfast.
Smoke still filled the air, keeping that hazy summer look hanging over everything. The young folks packed up their towels, toys, drinks, and a charcuterie lunch, then headed to a beach in Kelowna after 11 p.m. Meanwhile, S took a nap, and I worked on the blog by the pool. I also read a bit more of my book while relaxing in the sun and smoking. Thankfully, there was a breeze today, which made the heat and smoky air a little more bearable.
A steak supper followed with Matt cooking the steaks, and then the evening got a little more competitive with a rousing game of poker. Jim and Nicki eventually headed home, but we weren’t quite ready to call it a night, so we finished up with a game of Hearts before finally heading to bed.
Another simple summer day filled with family, friends, good food and games—the kind of day where there wasn’t anywhere we needed to be, and that made it just about perfect.
