I was up a few times during the night checking the rain amount—just a tenth of an inch—and at 4:30 the coyotes were carrying on, so I feed the cats sitting out front. When morning finally arrived, it was a completely fogged-in fishing village outside. Quite the contrast from the sunshine we would eventually see. S made the coffees to get Monday underway.
I published Saturday’s blog before enjoying a second coffee on the deck, the rain has turned the grass green—at least in places. I then picked cilantro for the two ladies who were interested and Harley and I walked it down to the gate for pickup.
S had lunch and headed to town while B was out feeding and doctoring Beibs’ foot, as she was back on another week of evening shifts.
I worked on the blog for a while, finishing Sunday’s vacation post, but eventually the 24°C sunshine called me outside. More leaves came off the tomato plants, and then I tackled the in-ground flower bed, hand-pulling weeds and thistles that have grown ... like weeds.
I was overheating before long, so I took a break on the deck with a cold drink and my buddy Harley, who also got her nails trimmed while we relaxed. Eventually, the workout I had been procrastinating about called, and I got partway through it before S returned to the ranch around 5 and settled onto the couch with his laptop and a ball game.
Once my workout was done, I headed back outside to the deck and worked on today’s blog. Eventually I had to make a grocery run to town, then came home to put the two ponies away before finishing up the flower-bed weeding.
Grady stopped by to drop off the rake and ended up staying for a visit on the deck over a beer. It was a lovely evening to sit outside and catch up, although I sadly noticed that it is starting to get dark earlier. He left after 8:30, and by 9:15 the sun was down.
S went back to his ball game while I settled in to watch Sterling Point during the remaining golden hour. Once it ended, S headed out for a hot tub soak, and then we finally finished Project Hail Mary after having stopped halfway through it last nights.
Another Monday. A little rain, a little fog, a lot of weeds, blogs, gardens, animals and the usual ranch-life shuffle. And despite the busy day, there was still time for deck drinks, a visit with a friend and an evening of golden light—although apparently summer is quietly reminding us that the days are getting shorter.
