25 Years Later, Farm to Fork & a Busy Friday

Hard to believe today marks 25 years since 9/11. Crazy how fast time has gone, and how the world still is in conflict and probably always will be.

A cool 5 degrees out this morning — hello coffee! With my second cup, I headed to the computer to get Wednesday’s blog done. S came up to make his coffee and then hit our bed for his X viewing. I was working on yesterday’s post when Mom called to make sure my history bit was as accurate as possible.

The dreary, overcast day was threatening rain, so I headed outside to top the tomatoes even more, following this almanac tip. I also potted three cuttings in a planter and took them into the garage, just to see if I can get them to grow in there over the winter.

Then I moved on to the garden. Potatoes were dug, along with some carrots, onions and beets for supper tonight. S had come out to aerate, but he had some engine issues. I came in and cooked up a most delicious everything-farm-to-fork lunch — sautéed veggies with bison liver.

B was out as we were eating to feed the horses, then headed back home to pack up and leave for Oyen for the weekend for a friend’s wedding there.

S hit the couch after his tasty lunch to rest and watch poker — how, I always wonder, but whatever floats your boat! Before long he was asleep, and I caught up on today’s blog.

I did my workout, then took Harley for a walk as S was back out to do more aerating. We swapped off, with me going around the trees and tight spots and him taking the long straightaways. We wrapped it up by 4, and I brought my washed veggies in. High of 13 today.

The plastic in ground holders snapped, S  created these new solar light holders drilling in narrow posts and pounding in the ground, get hack.

A hot tub was in order to help S’s knee, then after a quick rinse, I prepped for supper and got it in the oven. Shaina and Lexi arrived at 7 as S threw the burgers on the BBQ.

After eating, Shaina and Harley went out and caught Switch and Cheese, then barebacked into the barn to do some brushing and give Mac another round of dewormer she will take for five days in a row. I went out and covered the tomatoes with sheets, then headed to the barn to help her.

Soon S was out to see what was happening, with Matt Gosling stopping over for bags of bottles for his kids’ fundraiser. I came back in and worked on blogs until everyone was in. We visited for a while, then S and I finished the episode of Lioness we quit last night, while Shaina went to her room with Lexi.

A busy Saturday with a little bit of everything — garden work, horses, family, and, of course, plenty of coffee to keep it all moving.

  1. I smiled at your comment about Sheldon playing hockey like he was on the Flames roster. Go Sheldon, but save the knee ;-)
