I made coffee this morning and delivered a cup to the sleeping prince before settling in with an Instagram peruse. I got Sunday’s vacation blog posted—the one I had finished yesterday—and then worked on a few more blogs after soaking the horse feed. There is always another blog waiting when you keep a daily life log!
B was out early today, arriving just after 11 to feed horses and take care of Beibs’ foot. Meanwhile, S and I lowered the Fireball on the lift so he could get at the leak and work on figuring out what needs to be repaired. I pulled a big bunch of dill and Harley and I made our way to the gate for pickup, although Harley only made it halfway before apparently deciding she had walked far enough. Britt pulled out as I was walking the dill just before noon.
The afternoon had us both busy with our own projects. S worked on and researched repairs for the Fireball, including what the possible auto body shop costs might be, while I worked away at tidying the house.
I took a break on the deck to finish a podcast about dementia that I had started yesterday while weeding. It talked about five things that can help improve your risk of dementia, summed up with the word NEURO:
N — Nutrition, with adding greens daily being especially beneficial
E — Exercise, particularly getting those legs moving
U — Unwind, or managing stress
R — Restorative sleep, aiming for at least seven hours
O — Optimize cognitively through social engagement and learning new things
Something to think about while pulling weeds and drinking a cold beverage on the deck!
By mid-afternoon, with the temperature reaching 27°C, I decided Hank might have an easier time drinking from a lower trough, so I set up the orange tub in the middle paddock for him. Of course, Bird and Switch immediately had to come investigate the new arrival. They also requested a spray-down. Switch took her enjoyment one step further and promptly rolled, turning herself into a mud ball.
Hank's bath night blog was published.
Supper was absolutely delicious and felt like the best kind of garden-to-table meal: garden potatoes, onions, fresh herbs, our first beets and chicken kabobs all cooked on the BBQ. The first beets of the season always feel like a little victory. I also ate the first tomato off the vine.
The evening was so beautiful that I couldn't resist going for a ride during the golden hour. Sheldon opted out yet again, claiming he was going to get back to work on the Fireball after seeing the repair quotes—which apparently were very much in the $$$$ category. I was miffed to find one of the people requesting dill had NOT picked up their bundle nor replied they changed their mind, frustrating.
After my ride, I trimmed Switch’s feet, tossed hay and got the two roomies settled into their paddock. S was still working on the truck when I came back, wearing his hockey helmet because he had cranked his head yet again. Apparently ranch repairs require both tools and protective headgear!
Once he finally came in, we watched the comedy 72 Hours, followed by an episode of Hoarders seeing S had never seen the show before. He wasn't entirely convinced the situations could actually be real.
Yep. Apparently three million people really are living that way.
Another hot, productive ranch day wrapped up with horses, gardens, good food, a golden-hour ride and a little television shock therapy. Not a bad way to spend a summer day.

Ive listened to half of the blog you texted ;-)
