Pool Days, Golf Boys & Another Fire Worry

Renn was up early and absolutely stoked for vacation, already pool-ready before most of us had our eyes fully open. But first, there was colouring time on the deck after our swings in the egg chair. Matt was up early too and had already had a hot tub before joining us by 8.

Cereal I packed was the only option for breakfast, luckily the previous people left a jug of milk in the fridge. Shaina and Kaylin headed out to get the groceries for the week after putting together a great meal plan. With a house full of people, a ginormous kitchen and a long list of appetites, I'm pretty sure the grocery haul was no small undertaking.

Before 9, most everyone was already in the pool. Renn, Nana and Grandpa also tried the hot tub too, and just like that, vacation mode was officially in full swing.

Pretty smokey out at 10 am

In Strathmore, Amanda came down and found Harley curled up on the couch by Clover. "I appreciate she is using the blanket, can't be mad when she is following the rules!"

Jim and Nicky joined us for the day, and after eggs and bacon brunch the fellows sans Sheldon headed off for golf around noon.

The rest of us had no trouble entertaining ourselves. With temperatures reaching 33°C, the pool was definitely the place to be. We spent the afternoon floating, visiting and soaking up the vacation atmosphere. S even managed to nap in the pool on a lounger—his stated goal for the week was to get a nap in every single day, and he was already checking that box!

Renn's new unicorn with water gun floatie was a big hit

Shaina made a delicious mid-afternoon lunch of grilled cheese and tomato soup, which hit the spot before we returned to the pool.

smoky but still pretty

The golfers finally returned after 7, just in time for the big spaghetti supper (cooked again by chef Shaina) around the ginormous dining table. There is something pretty great about a table big enough to gather everyone together for a proper family meal.

Unfortunately, Jim and Nicky received some concerning news during supper—a fire was burning near their home in Summerland. After eating, they decided they needed to head back and check things out. They dropped Nathan and Matt back with their golf buddies for an evening out before making their way home.

The rest of us settled into a quieter evening. The Kuhn Klan played cards before Kaylin and Shaina enjoyed a hot tub soak. I settled in with my book while S was off to dreamland.

The boys eventually made it home much later after their night out on the town.

It was a pretty perfect vacation day for most of us—33°C, swimming, golf, good food, cards and a whole lot of family time. The only wrinkle was the worry about the fires burning around us, a reminder that even when you're away enjoying a beautiful holiday, danger is never completely out of mind.
