Sunshine, Septic Decisions, and a Solid Supper Win

Another sunny start—coffee in bed, scrolling through socials, easing into the day. Shaina popped up before 9 for a coffee to take to her phone call, and by the time we made it out for breakfast, she was already deep into another puzzle. Matt joined for a quick bite, then back to meetings.

I got into a Pilates session while S opted out—claimed he’d walk Harley down to the gate to open it up for some traffic coming through. Matt headed out for a walk shortly after, and the two of them ended up looping back together. Meanwhile, Shaina was off again to her Starbucks office.

S spent some time on his laptop in Big Brown, researching camping spots, booking us 4 nights at our favourite Bow River Campground in June while I wrapped up my workout and got into blogging. Lunch, then back to organizing and cleaning mode for me, while S prepped for the septic clean-out.

It was a bit of a “things are happening” afternoon—Harley’s food got delivered, the GE microwave finally got picked up, and the septic guy rolled in just after 2.

Let the fun begin… or not. Turns out, after a bit of discussion, the septic guy actually talked S out of installing his new setup and suggested leaving things as-is. So just like that—he loaded up, hauled the "crap" away, and was gone within the hour.

S came back inside and hopped on his laptop again, but when Shaina and Britt got home around 3:30, they immediately claimed they could smell… well, septic remnants 😄. Fair enough. Even I caught a hint of it in the garage, so the coveralls went straight into the garage wash, and S tossed in a load inside too.

Supper prep was a much better-smelling situation. I rubbed down a pork shoulder roast, seared it in the Instant Pot, then—with my sous chef S on onion duty—got everything going. I skipped cooking veggies in the pot this time and instead roasted a big pan to go alongside. Way better call.

B handled horse duties—feeding carrot peelings with their mash and trimming Roo and Jimmy’s feet—before heading home to enjoy the rest of her day off. Shaina finished her puzzle just as supper was ready.

The meal? A win. Super tender pork, roasted veggies, fresh salad—everyone was happy.

After supper, the four of us hit the hot tub, followed by showers and a movie recommendation from Cole—Send Help. Safe to say… unanimous “do not recommend,” so we’ll leave it at that.

We salvaged the night by watching more Avatar: Fire and Ash. Made it about an hour in before I started dozing off, so we called it around 11:30. Another full day—sunshine, a little chaos, and at least one really good meal.
