Sunshine, Stain & Getting Stuff Done

Another beauty of a day before the forecast takes a cool and possibly rainy turn. S made our coffees this morning, and we savoured them together over our usual Spanish lessons—me scrolling Insta, him diving into chess. Yep, you read that right—Duolingo now offers chess lessons! He’s been hooked. I knocked out some quick marketing and got a blog post published while he finished up his breakfast.

Shaina shared this memory from 2 years ago <3

After that, he headed out to finish mowing the paddocks while I tackled round one of staining the custom dining table top, and gave the base and leaves another coat too. Once that was done, I cleaned up and moved on to painting the tea cart wood pieces. S came to my rescue welding on a missing bolt from the frame—teamwork!

As usual, once I’m outside—even if I’m just tossing Roo her hay—I can’t help but start pulling weeds as I go. I turned the soakers on in the garden beds; it hit 27°C today, so the A/C had to come on. Things are thirsty!

Lunch was leftover BBQ steak from last night with a fresh spinach salad I whipped up and iced coffees—delicious and satisfying. S then grabbed his iced coffee and headed off for day two of the rodeo work bee, starting at 1.

With the house to myself, I got to work. Plants watered, laundry kept rotating, folding, and put away. I vacuumed the main floor, reorganized the pantry, and let Roo out for herd time. Some general tidying, and then I sat down to write today’s blog post while watching some broncs and bulls in the background.

After a productive morning, it was time to tackle the recycling. Once that was sorted, I headed back to the tea cart project and gave all the wood pieces their second coat of rich black paint.

Just as I was finishing up, B and Cooper rolled in. They settled into the cool house—B with her book and Cooper stretched out beside her on the couch, clearly a fan of the air conditioning.

S got home from his afternoon volunteering around 5:30, groceries in hand. I pulled together a taco supper for us to enjoy, and they hit the spot. Despite the heat, B decided to head out for a ride after dinner—what a trooper. Meanwhile, S and I stayed tucked in the cool comfort of the house, rodeo playing in the background as we waited for Allan and Dorothy to swing by and pick up their car that’s been parked here all week.

baby sun bather :)

They arrived at 7:30, after a 30 minute visit they swapped cars and were on their way. S was back to the rodeo and I wrote a Hometalk post for the long MCM dresser. I took the dogs for a walk in the gorgeous golden hour sunshine then got busy with more weeding. B and Coop headed home after feeding horses. S listed the round baler for sale and had an inquiry right away for his number. He helped pull a few thistles but it looks like the island is full on them again, ugh. They are an awful weed.

The evening weather made yard work much easier. S went to use push mower but it won't start like the weed eater. Looks like we will need a repairman for those 2 machines, perhaps SLiK Services may have time. Inside I started a new series on Netflix while S had a hot tub then we watched some 1923 before a late lights out after midnight.

One of those productive, soul-satisfying days where the to-do list actually shrinks a little.
