Another smoky, dreary day kicked off this unusual July. Between the wild temperature swings and relentless rain, it’s hard to tell what season we’re in some days! I made us coffees and we eased into the morning with a quiet start in bed before I jumped into marketing, took a quick shower, and got Saturday’s blog polished and published.
That custom dining table is testing me lately. The stain is still tacky in spots, the top feels too dark compared to the base, and the leaves are streaky. It’s likely the humidity, but it has me second-guessing myself as a refinisher. I covered the table and moved the leaves aside, deciding to let it breathe (and dry!) while I shifted my focus to something new.
After my sandwich, it was back to the workshop. I tackled a super dirty nightstand—removed the hardware, vacuumed it out, gave it a good scrub, and set it aside to dry. S was off on another raspberry run at the winery.
Next up was a chest of drawers—same process: hardware off, cleaned top to bottom, and ready for the next step. With a break in the tasks, I convinced Harley to join me outside for a walk, then dove back into weeding. So. Many. Weeds. I pruned the zucchini, though they’re struggling this year without consistent sun. Everything just feels stalled but the grass and hay is sure green.
S returned around 4 with another batch of raspberries to wash and freeze. We had BBQ for supper, then split off—he dove into his sports zone while I started watching Landman in bed.
B and Cooper arrived around 7:30 just as the drizzle picked up again. She fed horses and headed home, wrapping up another soggy, smoky day on the prairie.

The tacky table must be a challenge. Probably is the humidity as you suggested.
ReplyDeleteCrazy issue I have never had in our usually dry country!
