Paint project, baling lessons and storm clouds

Paint Projects, Baling Lessons & Storm Clouds

The morning started with me making coffee and delivered to the prince in bed. With the custom table still drying (very slowly!), I decided it was time to kick off a fresh paint project. I hauled out a TV cabinet, gave it a good clean and sand, and got to work with two of my new paint colours—something fresh always feels energizing.

Today’s also the day Shaina and Matt fly back to Ottawa—wishing them safe travels home. It is Craig's birthday today and he and Asher are on a plane to Florida for a ball tournament, Happy cake day Craig!!

B rolled in around 12:30, just as S was finishing up his lunch. She headed out to ride Roo, and S jumped in the baler to start rolling more hay after 1. I wrapped up the first coat of paint on the cabinet, then came inside to update my spreadsheets and prep some blog content. B returned from her ride, grabbed a quick lunch, and was off again by 2—this time to the city for a massage.

I then was uploading Monday’s photos and videos and hit publish on the day’s blog post. After a quick sanding, the cabinet got its second coat, and I tossed in a load of laundry before treating myself to an iced coffee break. I poured one for S, too, and brought it out to him in the field, leaving it on a bale since he didn’t see me waving him down.

Back at the house, I finished that second coat on the cabinet while dark clouds started building. It was a steamy 27°C and a severe thunderstorm warning had rolled in. S kept baling through the heat, and B returned around 5:30, just in time to jump in with him for a crash course in baling.

I popped a pizza in the oven for supper—S grabbed a slice on his way out the door for a rodeo meeting before 6:30. B and I ate ours, then she put Bird into Roo’s pen to eat her dinner, and we headed back out to continue baling.

The first bale turned out a little loose—probably my fault as I had turned the revs down while we were trying to get Sheldon on the phone for instructions. Cooper had followed us, so I walked him back to the house, let Bird in with the others, and cleaned up the feed tubs just as the wind and sprinkles rolled in.

B powered through and managed another 3½ bales, wrapping up at 8:30 while I was finishing up yesterday’s blog. What a full and satisfying day, even with the moody sky overhead. She and Coop headed home. I moved to bed to watch Love is Blind on big TV. S was home after 10 and watched rodeo till midnight.

  1. A productive day indeed. Glad the hay was rolled before the rain hit.
