An alarm startled us all before 3 a.m.—turns out it was the rain gauge alerting us to half an inch of rainfall. Getting back to sleep after that was tricky, especially with the steady sound of rain continuing through the early hours. By morning, we’d had 1.1" and it was still coming down.
The house stirred by 9, coffees were poured, and a slow breakfast eased us into the day. After showers and a bit of prep, the Schmitts headed into town to mail a parcel and pick up a new game. S followed later in the tractor to get the A/C unit repaired.
While in town, S stopped to restock on beer!!
waiting to go to Nana & Bapa's XOXO
Just around noon, Kaylin, Nathan, and little Renn arrived, and the town crew wasn’t far behind. Pizza was had for lunch then the whole afternoon became a cozy mix of visiting, card games, and even a little light wedding planning. Outside, the drizzle never really stopped—just soft, steady rain all day.
Mr & Mrs potato heads were a hit from Auntie Debby
This is the quilt she made Kaylin, such a rich pretty purple
And the Boysis tree skirt she crafted as well <3
Lunch at the kid table
then back to potato faces
Renn woke from her nap still bundled in her comfy cozy sleep sack, just in time to join in on the wedding planning. She and Nathan had both gone down for a rest after his sleepless night, and while he was still feeling a bit under the weather, he quietly listened in from the sidelines as she had a snack and snuggle.
Potato glasses looking fine
We pulled together a sausage supper, perfect for the cool and damp mood. The Boysis family packed up and hit the road by 6:30, with the rain tally hitting a full 1¾" for the day. A much-needed soak for the land!
Back inside, the card game of choice turned into a lively round of Russian Rummy which completely took over the evening. B arrived after her long and stressful day at work only to find the horse shelter flooded, a hose pulled off, and her horses covered in bugs and racing about. Not the way to end a work day anyone hopes for. She fed, sprayed them and headed home for a good nights sleep. Papa had a 12 hour visit to emergency today feeling some pains and such so tests were done to sort it out. Fingers crossed all gets sorted fast.
Despite B's chaotic horse situation, we ended the night on a lighter note—yours truly took the rummy crown! 😄 We called it a night around 10, then S & I took in another episode (or two) of 1923, drifting off just shy of midnight as the rain continued its soft patter outside.
Sounds like card games were lots of fun as usual. So glad the Boysis family joined and wedding plans are moving along. Sorry to hear Nathan and Papa are under the weather. To be blessed with more rain, yahoo!
ReplyDeleteAlways good cards games indeed. Yes hoping both fellows feel better soon. The rain has been most welcome for sure!
