Nana?, Go Swim? – A Rainy Day Story

Renn woke briefly at 2, then slept soundly until 8. S, on the other hand, was up during the night, thanks to the steady rain that made for a very broken sleep. When morning came, I heard a sweet little voice over the monitor—“Nana? Nana?”—and was greeted with a big, bright smile. She crawled into bed with Grandpa, who was still snoozing. After eyeing him, she declared, “Grandpa sleeping,” and then quickly added, “Go swim?” 😂

We sent a quick video to Kaylin, who may have been upgraded to Porter Reserve—though she did lose her sugar scrub at security. Apparently, anything “smearable” is now considered a liquid, just like my peanut butter confiscation on that Bolivia trip with AJ.

I also had an Etsy custom tile order come through, now to fit that in my to do plans :)

Over two-tenths of rain fell overnight. After a hearty breakfast for both Renn and Grandpa, I grabbed a shower while Renn found me and decided she wanted in too. I passed her off to S for drying off so we could both get dressed. He was off to church just as the rain started again.

Dr Renny in the house ... and don't ask me how she got up on here? I turned my back for a minute getting something out of the pantry and there she was.

Renn and I played with toys for a while, then ventured outside to splash in puddles. She tried fresh garden peas—though those quickly got spit out. I chauffeured her around the deck in a “car” (a.k.a. plastic ride-on toy), did a poop-scoop loop, and then we walked to the storage trailer to fetch a pool noodle for later.

Just as we came back inside for another snack, S returned from church. He made grilled cheese for lunch while Renn opted for fruit, loads of cheese, and a tiny bit of pepperoni. The highlight of her day was a ride in the ranger to pick fresh raspberries—she loved eating them straight from the pail and proudly carried it all the way back.

At home, she showed us how a puppy eats raspberries—off the kitchen island, of course. 😂 Then it was down for nap time by 1 p.m., and she went down easily after such a busy morning. B arrived not long after to walk Roo and change her bandage. The abscess still hasn’t popped fully. S went out to finally taste the peas and picked himself a fresh batch.

I pruned tomatoes and zucchini and picked the last of the spinach while S gave Harley a quick bath. He also filled in the sinkhole by the raised bed. B used the quad and trailer to clean Roo’s pen and had just finished feeding the horses when Renn woke up around 2:45.

She and I helped B walk Roo back to her pen from her herd-time, get a bucket of hay for roo then jumped in the ranger again to pick raspberries for B. S hand mowed areas of the lawn then used ride on mower afterward while Renn and I headed inside for playtime and raspberry snacking after Auntie B and Cooper went home.

Later, S relaxed in Big Brown and took a call from a friend, only to hear some sad news—another friend had passed away, far too young. A quiet moment settled in.

very good with the duplo blocks!

this is the new favourite sone, wheels on the bus is out, London bridges still an OK selection but this is on repeat all day long

I kept trying to capture it all but always missed bits

For supper, we cooked up sausage and bunny pasta for Renn, though her earlier grazing had filled her up. After a little break and showing her the bunny shapes, she happily ate a full bowl. Rain had returned while S was BBQing, but once it let up, we grabbed our suits and headed outside for a little splash in the "swimming pool" around 6:30. Light rain continued, but it didn’t stop her fun.

drumming up a tune and waving good bye to ducky!

Back inside after 7, we changed into warm jammies and played some more. For such a tiny thing, she’s constantly on the move and snacks all day. We brushed teeth, read some bedtime stories, and had her tucked in by 8:30.

S and I followed suit, both tuckered. We started watching a docuseries on Jeffrey Epstein, but I wasn't into it—too disturbing—so I worked on the blogs instead. We eventually switched to another series, this one about a murder in a national park, and ended the night with an ice cream sandwich.

  1. such fun and so many adventures at Nanna's and Grandpa's. She looks like a big help with the raspberries. Such enthusiasm with the puddles.
