The magpies were squawking before 5:30 a.m. outside the window, forcing it shut for any chance of more sleep. Cooper needed out by 6:30 and barked soon after to come back in—of course. With three dogs in the bedroom (two of them in bed!), it was one of those nights. The cats were fed early too, and we all did our best to catch a few more winks.
I woke just after 9 to another round of rain. The horses were on the move, stirred up by the noise and horns from the cancer bike run passing along the Namaka Road. S was up later, dressed, and off to church while I handled the dog feeding—though it seemed two were on hunger strike. Coop, however, is a fan of his new food!
With all the racket from the bikes, the horses were high-strung and Roo was putting miles on in her paddock. I let her out to join the others around 11 to help her settle.
S returned from church a little after 11 and headed straight for Big Brown, then landed in front of the ball game with his phone before whipping up a quick omelet for lunch. I had started my manicure when B arrived just as he sat down to eat. She kindly offered to paint my nails—thank you, B! It's so much easier having help with the right hand.
She and I took the dog pack out for a walk just as it started to sprinkle again. Though wet and grey, nothing measurable was falling. Back at the house, B clipped Harley’s nails, made horse food, and fed the horses. I raided the garden for peas (they’re finally ready!), then went back to weeding and poop patrol. B was doing paddock cleanup too while Bird grazed. Fairy rings are popping up everywhere!
After the ball game ended, S was off in the ranger around 2 while I worked on writing a tutorial for the dining chair makeover. The sun made a brief appearance. B, meanwhile, was doing her usual horsey tasks, then headed out just after 3 to drop Clover off and make her way home, with the Paetzs on their way back.
With all the dog traffic lately, the carpets needed a vacuum. I had an early supper of leftover cabbage roll casserole, and S returned from raspberry picking around 4 with a couple gallons. He washed and froze them before suggesting a river run. While he unhooked the dump trailer, I caught Roo and tucked her back into her diet pen. A parcel arrived—new drawer slides for a future project!
The fresh grass and weeds in the newly seeded pit area have really taken off, so S jumped on the mower and gave it a cut along with some of the taller yard patches. I fed Harley and grabbed a bite myself before he came in to join.
Around 8, another light round of rain fell—only about 0.02" total today, just sprinkles really.
We capped off the night by finishing the final season of Yellowstone, officially wrapping up all three connected series. We watched the intro to Landman before calling it a night.

Your yard is looking beautiful. Rain sure makes the difference. Relaxing time spent with dogs (inside and out!). Raspberries look delicious.
ReplyDeleterain sure does make a difference but I have not tasted one raspberry, S freezes right away and then uses in his porridge. I would like a pie someday though so may have to go pick some
