Happy Canada day everyone! Ours started with creamed coffee in bed seeing it is an early start to the w/e. It wasn't long until we headed out to star the landscaping process. We started by laying out the hose to create the bed layout then set in all the plants. The decision to put the pile of top soil in the bed was next so plants out and soil dumped and raked then plants set back in and the area all smoothed.
here is the part of the plan working on today
ready to roll at 10 am, still wet ground from yesterdays near inch rain
I mowed around the fruit trees then switched off Britt who was terrible at raking. She was called out to be a paid worker but at this rate she would cost a fortune for little work. She mowed the lane way and approach.
Sheldon started moving soil between patios while I began the planting process but found the clay super hard an only 3 or so inches down. Hmmmmm new plan; the tree spade was brought in. It saved the back but also was not as accurate but after many hours of digging moving, new dirt into quad then around plants, more raking and all the plants were in including 3 transplanted ones.
After mowing, we all stopped for a quick snack around 3, then Britt gave 5 horses wormer, scrubbed Bird's back legs then rode Bird and KD (another paid job) She then hit the basement to shower and get ready for Amber and Cassie to arrive later in the evening.
After all were planted and raked smooth, I ran a soaker hose and gave them a good drink while Sheldon worked at cutting the last few areas and move out the quack grass areas. More top soil brought up and back bladed it. I helped rake areas smooth and the old grass with tire marks and top soil additions. Things are starting to come tougher and look great. In the garden I pulled spent poppies and dead headed planters continuing with the landscape overhaul.
A couple loads of top soil were dropped by the garage and back blading started when we called it at night after 9.
My sunburned shoulders (even after 2 sunscreen applications) from 11 hours in the 24 degree sunshine were calling for some cool water and my grimy feet needed a good scrub. Amber arrived about 8 and Cassie 9 and eventually they were off to the Canada day fireworks at 11. Refreshed now time to rehydrate and fill the tummy on a late supper then chillax for the rest of the celebration day. A thunder storm rolled in about 11:30, perfect timing for fireworks events thats for sure but it did not end up raining much.
