Winter Returns With Vengeance

Winter made good on its threat — she’s back.

I woke briefly at 5:30 to the sound of wind whipping around the house, then rolled over and sank right back into what might have been the most solid sleep I’ve had in weeks. I don’t think I moved an inch. Proper wake-up happened after 7, so I claimed a quiet half hour of Spanish with my “free Super Lingo” week — pausing midway to make a coffee, priorities in order.

S surfaced later, brewed his mug, and immediately had another hockey game underway. Apparently the winner plays Canada tomorrow, so naturally this is very important business.

I’m officially three days behind on blogs again, so the morning was spent catching up. Saturday and Sunday were written up, one published and the other queued for later. Outside it was -15 with the wind howling straight through anything not nailed down. Supposed to dip to -25 tonight. B messaged asking if I’d blanket Bird and Jimmy — absolutely.

This is the full photo of the garden puzzle I did. Taking puzzles apart sure take less time than putting together but surprisingly it takes awhile to disassemble

After feeding the dogs and cats and setting bones on to simmer for broth, I bundled up. Harley and I braved the biting wind to fetch blankets from the tack room. The cold hit hard across my face — poor horses. Once everyone was snug, we hustled back inside for a hot tea and more blogging while S continued his Olympic marathon.

Then I made the questionable decision to start the puzzle I’d been given. Oh my. Muted colours, random cut pieces, and a terribly vague reference photo. I genuinely considered boxing it right back up — but of course I didn’t. Challenge accepted. For nearly ten hours, while the wind roared and snow drifted sideways, I worked away at it. By the end I had about a third done and a mild case of puzzle blindness.

The city was getting allot more snow accumulation than us, ours is blowing south. They shovelled twice today

S spent the day in his cozy command centre — watching TV, making a few calls, reading, showering, laptop perusing. I remembered to order Harley’s food after her supper and wrangled Stella back into the garage after she’d boldly spent the day out in the freeze. B popped out just after 6:30 to do a quick feed before heading home with Coop.

At 8:30 I finally forced myself to step away from the puzzle. It was already -20 and still dropping. We wrapped up Season 3 of Peaky Blinders — which got a bit odd there at the end — and started Season 4. Still hooked.

The wind is still howling as I write this. Proper winter. Cozy inside, wild outside.
