Saturday — Boats, Buckets of Rain & a Birdie or Two

Up early again—Harley out for her morning break, coffee brewed and delivered to the Prince still lounging in bed at 9. Around that same time, the Stouts text offering a boat ride saying they were heading down to launch their boat soon, so we scrambled into gear and joined them. The lake was a little choppy, but still a great ride.

Back at the trailer, we tossed some smokies on for a quick lunch before heading into Brooks for our 2 PM tee time—only to have the sky open up just as we arrived. The rain came down in sheets, so the boys dashed in to change our tee time to 2:40, and we detoured to the Piston Broke Brewery. A little beer therapy later, the skies cleared, and we had one of those perfect golf afternoons where everyone actually played pretty well.

I want a shirt that says that! and the beergarita was so delicious

Meanwhile, Darren and Sharon stayed back to greet Whitney, Kyle, and the kids, heading out for some water time together. When we rolled back in from the greens, we grilled up a whitetail tenderloin feast. Doug and Toby brought their bison steak feast to join at our table. They had delicious BBQ grilled zucchini with grated parmesan I must try and make. Darren and Sharon took Harley for a post-dinner stroll while we ate now that Kyle and Whitney headed home after their supper.

Then it was boat time for the keen fishing crew. S and I opted to walk Harley down to the dock—figured we should stroll after our days beverages. The evening was perfect on the water, and Darren struck gold (or rather, scales) fishing spot right near the marina entrance. Doug and Toby’s worms were irresistible, and fish were flying into the boat like they’d RSVP’d for dinner. In a twist, Darren hooked a crab—Doug landed one shortly after, because apparently crabs were on the guest list too. For the ride back, Harley was lifted in the Stouts’ truck box as we happily bummed a ride back to camp.

As the sun dipped, we lit a fire under the clear evening sky. Stouts headed home after s'more time (Sheldon says THANKS Sharon!!)  then Toby and Duke ventured home. I called it a night just before midnight, leaving Doug and Sheldon to finish their drinks by the flames. Back inside, we wrapped up the season of Untamed—which left us scratching our heads. Fingers crossed season two makes sense of it all.

Seems like every year when we camp here there is a crazy full moon!
