I was up at 8 with my mind buzzing through the day’s to-do list. First order of business: soaking my neglected orchids, which had somehow slipped through my regular indoor plant care routine. Then, after much contemplation, I officially canceled my fall market booth. The decision stung a bit, but with so few pieces ready, hauling all my staging and vintage “garage sale” finds into the city for two days—and paying nearly $300 for booth rent—just didn’t make sense.
I brought the “prince” his coffee in bed before 9, where he was enjoying a luxurious sleep-in. After my shower, I black-waxed the tile, officially calling it complete—then immediately decided it deserved another clear coat before adding the sticker to the back. Next up: figuring out building a custom box for shipping and printing the label.
S headed out for his “gopher loop,” spotting a few in the pastures, before hopping on the mower to finish the yard and laneway. Meanwhile, I fielded phone calls about the Medicine Hat garage sales, connecting a few more items with interested girls. I also chipped away at a tutorial project for my monthly submission quota.
Bits and pieces went in and out of the trailer—meals, clothes, linens—while I dug up fresh potatoes, scrubbed them clean, and set them aside for the trip. S tried out the new carburetor on the weed eater with zero success. Lunch break it was.
B popped in at 1 to drop off Cooper and let Roo graze, then dashed to the city to pick up tires. I backed out to run to town just as someone arrived to pick up five bales. In town I got groceries, a little booze, and mail my Etsy parcel, stopping by Amanda’s for the shipping label she’d kindly printed. We had a quick chat, then I returned my library books. By 3, I was home, loading more in the trailer and tackling pulling all the dill and many weeds, while S attacked the gravel with the blade after hand-pulling an impressive crop of thistles from the island bed.
B returned from Calgary only to find the tires were the wrong size. She got busy with her horse chores and—randomly—shave Sheldon’s back before heading home at 4:30.
Around 5, while I was finishing watering planters, Sheldon called Doug to check in and learned the campground was filling up fast—only five spots left. By the time we called, they were down to a few for tonight. Cue chaos. We booked two spots but had to head out immediately to snag them. The next hour was a whirlwind of packing what we hadn’t already prepped.
We left the yard at 6:15, grabbing Subway in Bazzano after tossing my planned supper into the trailer fridge. We pulled in at 7:58—two minutes under the 8 p.m. deadline—paid for four nights, found our site (#26), and hooked up the power… only for Sheldon to remember we hadn’t filled the water tank. Back to the main gate we went, filled up, and returned to our spot to back in, hook up, extend the slides, level the trailer, lay out the rug, and finally relax.
The evening ended with snacks and a few rounds of Qwixx. Of course, we realized we’d forgotten the laundry basket and Sheldon’s sweats. Bedtime came at 10:30, with “Untamed” queued up to wind down the day.
