I woke to the sound of rain tapping the windows and wondered, Will he still cut hay today? Coffee in bed with a quick round of Duolingo and breakfast for S later, he declared, “Yep, I’m still going.”
I dove into work mode — shared my new bar cart tutorial, published a blog post from August 1 (only 10 days behind!), and wrote a Hometalk post for the stool turned plant stand. Meanwhile, S headed out to check the swather, and I tracked down some horse tack a lady was interested in.
The custom table was due for pickup, so I gave it a quick paper-bag polish… only for marks to appear. Cue panic. I buffed like mad and just managed to make it look great as the buyers pulled in after 9:30. After a friendly visit and a safe load-up, they were gone by 10:30.
By the time he finished the old hay field, I was back in the office wrapping up about four days’ worth of tutorials and blog posts. S then headed to a hockey friends place (where Dave used to board) to custom hay out of the blue, and I moved out to the garage, fed Harley, and got to work on the nightstand project.
I painted it a soft “Elmwood” green, smooth-sanded the stain-oiled tops, then finished with a coat of wax for that subtle sheen.
Back inside, I finished my bowl of spaghetti and vacuuming. S was dropped off at 8:30 after his long day in the field. He ate, and we braved the bug onslaught for a quick soak in the hot tub. Before climbing in, I checked Bird’s nose in the horse shelter (all clear — no more bleeding).
Mozzies won the hot tub battle, so we cut it short and retreated inside for ice cream and two episodes of Celebrity Bear Hunt before calling it a night.
