Dresses, Dentist and Renny Time

The morning started on a sweet note with Sheldon bringing me coffee in bed. I got happily lost in my Duolingo bonus streak while he browsed the internet, then moved on to breakfast and packing his lunch. By 9:45, he was out the door to finish cutting the custom hayfield.

I published a blog post, slipped out to give the nightstand another coat of paint, and then loaded Kaylin and Nathan’s goodies into the car. At 11, I hit the road for the city.

First stop: Chinook Mall on the hunt for a dress for the wedding. Luck was with me at the first store—I found three I really liked—but the rest of the mall was a bust. It’s sad seeing all three anchor stores gone, plus several others shuttered. I took my three finds home to try on later for a proper decision.

Next up was my dental cleaning. I arrived early to figure out parking, but still cooled my heels for 20 minutes before my 2 p.m. appointment. The cleaning and checkup went fine, but the bill—over $600 with X-rays and a panoramic scan—was enough to make anyone understand why people skip the dentist.

Under a hot 27°C sun, I headed to HomeSense near Kaylin’s but didn’t have much luck there either. I considered popping into Winners for another dress check, but decided to just go straight to Kaylin’s instead. I unloaded their treasures from Grandma and Papa along with fresh potatoes, beets and zucchini from this morning’s harvest.

Kaylin and Renn were home just before 4:30 with yet another birthday gift: a big sand bucket full of stuff, and for the next nearly three hours it was Renn and Nana playtime. Kaylin cooked us pasta for supper once Nathan got home from his golf lesson around 5:30. Unfortunately, he’d caught the fever she’d had over the weekend, so he napped most of the evening and only surfaced to say goodbye when I left at 7:15.

The sand box was short lived as Renn is not a fan of bugs.. of any size. She was sporting a Minnie Mouse t shirt of course.

Meanwhile, Sheldon had texted (or rather replied to my text) around 4 to say he still wasn’t finished cutting hay. Eventually, he wrapped up, picked up Cooper, and went to the rodeo grounds for a cold beer with the crew.

I rolled into the driveway at 8:15 just as B was feeding her horses—no sign of S. Turns out he was still at the custom hay place, pressure washing the swather and chatting away. B and Cooper headed home after showing me where Switch was lame while S returned after 9, hooked up the cargo trailer for tomorrow, and joined me for a few more episodes of Celebrity Bear Hunt before calling it a night.
