tree planting

A gorgeous day finally, sun no wind. Britt had her late start while we enjoyed coffee in bed. Today was tree planting day to replace the poor dead ones. What a difference it made? One tree took allot longer to transplant as it still had some life but was in the center island. It was in the metal basket so needed a big hole to get out and one dug to put in, however new hole needed adjusting and old one better dirt.

 tree # 1 compass plum
tree # 2 honey crisp apple
tree # 3 shubert select chokecherry

tree #4 top grafted lilac, old one was $350, new one $39.99
tree # 5 has old one with some life, it gets a new spot to try and keep living
Lola's well hid stuffy in a new spot
 moving process begins
 new hole dug

new September ruby apple in the island and thunder child crab moved to treeline
Finally it was complete in hew home. While there with the bucket, I had Sheldon lift me up to top the 2 poplars I could never reach, success. I also had him lift me in skid steer to get 2 evergreens topped too, they all look better without dead showing.

A lady stopped for her shelf just before we took a late lunch/beer break. As we planted we watered and fertilized hoping to give a boost in this dry spring so far. Once all 5 were successfully planted and the one moved we sat on the deck in the sun enjoying a cold beverage savoring our work. Green is a lovely color to view on a windless 20 degree sunny day.
Supper was barbecued sausage, which added to the great spring feeling. A couple stopped out to buy a water tote as I planted 12 lilies from Sharon for my birthday, lets see how many grow ;) We continued to enjoy the evening taking the pets for a walk (still cleaning the hay field of hay net as we went) We worked till dark pounding fertilizer spikes in the rest of the existing trees in hopes of a rain but we only got thunder ;( Britt enjoyed her supper when home at 10 after a busy school/work day.
