Wind, Workouts & Waiting for Rain

The wind howled all night long and was still going strong when I woke just after 7… boo. I started the morning the usual way — coffee in hand, Instagram scrolling, and photo editing before making a second coffee plus one for S around 8, officially rousting him from his slumber.

I got right to work on blogs seeing I had somehow fallen three days behind again. Outside there was the tiniest tease of rain — maybe 25 drops total blown sideways in the wind. Just rain already! We need it so badly.

After his coffees S moved trailers around- pulling the dump trailer to a new spot and backing the travel trailer into its summer location after sitting in the shop all winter. After a quick bowl of fruit and cereal he headed to town around 10:30 for a rodeo meeting and hockey.

Meanwhile I spent the morning catching up on blogs, accounting, and gift searching for our soon-to-be three-year-old little miss. B and Cooper arrived to feed as she’s back on evening shifts again this week.

Lunch was a chicken sandwich while I finished the final episode of The One. The sun was now shining but the wind just would not quit and temperatures only made it to 16.

Then came the dreaded workout. Apparently it was squat and leg day… lucky me. I missed working out two days ago but considering I rode horses both days I’m counting that as balance ;)

Afterward the dogs and I headed out to water the seeds for a little fresh air before I came back in to continue tutorials and blog work. But before 3:30 the weather actually turned beautiful — sunshine and the wind finally calming down.

The dogs and I walked to check on Roo and her new diet mask setup, then I switched into full gardening mode planting half a row of peas and a full row of large onions.

Of course I had dragged all the planters and seedlings outside to enjoy the sunshine and within an hour the clouds rolled back in and the wind returned with attitude. Everything got hustled back inside again. UGH.

I was repotting tomato seedlings when S returned home around 4:30. Having been at his bi weekly McDonalds visit, I had him bring me home one of the new refreshers to try. He jumped in the ranger to borrow the winery mower for the far paddock. Once back he recruited me as official gate assistant while he mowed. During my wait I noticed Roo had already managed to ditch her diet mask — little rascal. I grabbed it and picked up large rocks on the walk back while also planting some Egyptian walking onions and hauling out more garden decor.

By the time S finished mowing and returned the mower, I was inside chopping onions and getting pork chops started for supper. Another hearty meal later and he was couch-bound as the news wrapped up while I kept plugging away on today’s blog.

Then suddenly… perfect weather again. No wind, sunshine, golden hour glow. So obviously we abandoned productivity and headed for a hot tub soak instead. Realistically I probably should’ve stayed outside gardening and yard working while conditions were actually nice — especially since rain is supposedly coming later this week. Though with May long approaching, that could just as easily mean snow ;)

S watched one hockey game then surprisingly skipped the second to come upstairs and watch more Running Point with me. B ended up working late and after midnight she decided Cooper may as well stay the night.

  1. The weather is so changeable. I did get some mowing done and wheeled two loads of grass to the heifers, who thoroughly enjoyed the snack. Three new babies in two days lowers the remaining impending births to six. I clocked just over 4 miles in walking - a combination of mowing, walking Tim and checking cows. I still have more flower beds to extract grass but I seem to run out of steam or the wind is too strong. I will take the pots back in tonight and maybe tomorrow as the temp is to drop. I did enjoy a chicken sandwich on Saturday when I arrived from the party. Thanks. Hopefully the snacks were enjoyed ad not too sweet. I realized when I got home I should have saved myself a couple!
