contest project finished

Last Thursday of September ;(, it has been 2 weeks since Britt's accident. Both are healing which is great. Today I tried a bit of a change in Bird's wound care adding good old tea tree oil to the 3 biggest ones. I hand picked the weeds in the round pen, stupid fox tail! Hardly a dent in the mowing process, perhaps I need to bring in the heavy hitters ;)

I white glazed the grey ruler and sanded and put another coat all over the end table. Once dry, I grabbed my power tools and installed the new mercury glass knobs, hauled it in and staged to post.

It was then time to write up the contest blog sponsored by General Finishes. There is a pile of work that goes into entering the contest but the hope is more traffic generated to my facebook page and in turn perhaps more buyers ;)

The dining table is done but I have no where to bring in and stage.. may have to just do in garage ;( But when I staged it out there I noticed it needed touch ups.. of course ;) Here it is before them though.

After 6 hours of mowing, I moved the 2 horses back and walked the dogs early, good to shake up the ground hog's day routine for sure. The day was mostly overcast and 20 but nice. Bird got the new TT/V treatment with her meds tonight. Hoping Britt sees big changes when she gets home tomorrow night.

First day of fall

First day of fall and it feels like summer, the sun is shining and hardly any wind. Ground hogs day again at the ranch with dogs fed and horse doctored and both put in the round pen to mow ;)

Shaina was up when I got back in just before 11 and after she cooked up some eggs and I added white glaze to the end table we got busy trimming horse feet. Baby was first up followed by KD. She put Switch in the round pen with the other 2 to help with the knee high grass.

 

She then got ready for work while I was back in the garage sealing the growth rulers with flat matte and adding more whit glaze to end table. As she headed to work I moved the 2 first mowers back leaving Switch to do more work ;) the rulers got their aging treatments.. almost ready to roll.

Seeing it was 20 and I had to put Switch back I stopped and trimmed her feet too. In the sunshine, bad idea as sweaty Betty and stupid flies. Mid trim, Jacqueline stopped to pick up her super cute cabinet!

Lola spotted a coyote again near the house in the hay field and chased it off.

Growth rulers got their final antiquing steps and staged for a picture.

Then it was time to bite the bullet and do the dining table treatment. Of course the first portion looks awesome but the down side of stain over paint is speed and the next portion looked blotchy so out came the mineral spirits to wipe all off and start again ;(

End table was distressed along the horizontal edges and then a first clear coat over entire piece.

The ground hog evening events were performed but tonight's late meal was one of the last zucchini sauteed up, so yum. Anyone else watch season premier of Survivor season 31!! HAHA

Yep, up early again, this time it was like 5:45 from a customer inquiry, then 6:48 from another loving the cabinet finished photo then 7:50 from Connie to say the polox checks arrived and all was good. Note to self, turn off phone!

Bird patiently stood for her hosing then ate quiet while I removed her fly sheet, applied Vaseline and green cream then she and Pep went back to mowing duty again. I think she enjoys these twice a day human interaction spa sessions ;)

Touch ups and some buffing as well as clear waxing the back of the cabinet, once dry time to stage and post finished pics. I LOVE it, an old piece given new life but still looks its age just fresh.

 

The growth rulers had backs painted and left to dry. Now to do the hand painting, maybe while Ellen is on later ;) Time to stain the end table top with the new gel stain in grey.. seems to be a theme ;)

Ponies got a little extra mowing time but I put them back around 1:30 then moved on to 2nd coat of grey on the table then the base of the end table got painted a light grey. I also spent some time on the phone with Elections Canada to figure why neither Shaina nor myself could find ourselves. Seems there was a wee number in each of ours that was wrong but now corrected and double checked everyone else was good to go.

Ellen and hand painting, both rulers hand painting done! then backs poly'd. I even stained up a grey growth ruler I hope to do in barn board look. Time for evening doctor rounds, feed master and dog walker before heading in to grab some left overs and hit the shower!

Today was a HUGE day for Sheldon at Sunshine Oilsands, today they turned on the plant and got it officially producing. WAHOO!!

Shaina arrived after work with a hot pumpkin spice tea, yummy thank you! We watched 2 season premiers Scream Queens and Limitless.

Of course it is Monday, no one home but me, dogs sleeping in the garage and I keep waiting up and drifting back but finally awake at 7:30!! dang it. I think it is subconscious as I have doctor appointment at 9:30 even though I have an alarm set. So dogs go out and coffee goes on and I get in some internet surfing time before heading to town.

In typical doctor style I was there early but not seen for over an hour and finally out by 11. That changed my morning plans immensely. I made a quick stop at the lab then grabbed early lunch burger after picking up my General Finishes package at the rental house. Why in heaven's they UPS'd it there I have no idea but at least the missing package is found. I know have a week to finish the contest project with it!

Back at the ranch, I quickly ate the burger before I crushed pills and was off to hose and treat Bird. Her wounds are healing nicely and so glad the molasses/syrup has her licking the bowl clean of her meds. I put her and Pepper in the round pen to mow for me for a couple hours.

and I got started on the contest project, the theme is geometric design and I had this square end table in mind with its geometrical design so order grey gel stain and plan to color block it. I hauled it outside to sand the top down but the shellac on those pieces is THICK!! so back in and a coat of stripper applied. This was work for the stripper so scraping was next and even then the full layer of stain remained. OH MY.. back outside and an hour later with 80 grit sandpaper I finally had the top sanded bare!

 then came the hour of power sanding!!

Shaina popped out after a short work cart shift on the cool breezy 16 day. She vacuumed out her jeep while I finished up and then we had a beverage and pretzels and dip during our visit. She was off home around 5:30 so I finished sanding and hauled in to scrub.

Next order of business, treat the patient, this time I just added more Vaseline to the wounds and gave meds, no hose or green cream. Diego was so excited for a walk so took the dogs for a walk which led to refilling all the salt/mineral tubs which ended in dusk so time to come in. I grabbed a late supper and was back out in the garage filling hardware holes on the end table, coating both rulers with another cover of paint and dark waxing the cabinet.. whew, busy day!
