So cold again, What a night!

Oh how the winds howled thru the night, poor horses. I checked the clock and temps often and when H came in after 7 she was not interested in going outside but did go into the garage. The house was cool 18 but heater was running. Another extreme cold warning was issued in the night. When Shaina was up before 9 to heat water she let H back in who was most excited to eat. As I passed the thermostat I saw the house was now 17 and brisk. Outdoor temp is -27 with who knows what kind of wind chill. The horses were covered in snow. H and I ran out quick to pull off the intake cover and get the heat going then put on a pot of coffee. I fed her and snapped some pics of the horses before they ran to the arena.

Bird makes a run for it to join the others and when I turn to get a coffee and look back they are all gone!

I made S a coffee and delivered to her in a meeting and got busy marketing. I took Shaina a second coffee during her meeting and watered basement plants. The poor furnace is working overtime at at 11 am it is only 18 in the house. Shaina was supposed to train Sharon at 11 but she again did not plug jeep in and today it would not start. At least the sun poked out at 11 now making it look warmer but still the furnace cannot seem to catch up to the -26 plus a wind chill temps. I created new sale online ads. 

This video shows the weather change with the sun out,  as well as these 3 racing and bucking along the tree line, into the closest paddock back to the gat where Bird biffed it then they looped a couple times around. However after checking my 2 minute video actually was only 2 seconds ;(

I started the truck then when Shaina finished up her online training with Sharon we bundled up along with Harley and went to blanket KD and Switch after dumping poop out of the big feed tub (dumb horses) and  carrying a couple bales down to refill.

Shaina plugged in her Jeep while I loaded a couple chairs and dropped them at the gate for a lady and went to let Oscar Gosling out for a pee. At -26 it did not take him long. This weeks Hello Fresh was delivered just after I got back.

A bowl of chili when I got back then instead of our planned coffee visit Sharon and I did it via phone. An hour and a half later we wrapped it till next time. Time to move my store around and have Shaina help me move the blue dresser up for proper photos. This step always takes time and then the lighting was too awkward so more tomorrow. 

The grinch tree was released and required Bruce to clean up the bits of greenery.

The HF is meals for 4 and seeing this is Sheldon first Tuesday shift change and wont make it for supper I cooked Shaina and I salmon and roasted veggies for supper. Britt and Coop were out quick to feed. I sent Harley out in her coat too to play for a bit. B had her back and headed home in short order waiting on standby to called into work again. I was working on and finished a Hometalk post for one of the past farmhouse dining tables. I am on a mission to catchup posts. Shaina left to the gym at 7:30 as I started writing a tutorial for the plant pot I painted after breaking one. Then the usual sharing all over :)

Shaina was back home at 9:30 as I was finishing up on the computer and moving to bed to finish season 5 of This Is Us. The final season starts tonight on TV. Sheldon text at supper his plane was delayed 2 hours so it will make for a late cold night for him ;(  It then turned to 3+ hours. Kaylin text pictures of Lexi's eye at 11:30, poor girl it seems to be not improving after the 2 surgeries. She has her follow up appointment Thursday but I worry it needs to be seen ASAP as does B.

I started the new Queer Eye season watching 2 hours then finished up my Netflix at 1 and just started to drift when B text at 1:30 am she got the call to come in for the surgery!! I touched base with S who had landed but was stuck on the tarmac with no crew to unload the plane. They ended up sitting on the plane longer then the actual flight.

I drifted again and woke with a start at 4:30 having not heard S get home. I text and no answer but not long after he pulled into the yard drove to the shop to plug in skid steer. I let H out who was not a fan of the -27 so they both came in. Turns out after finally getting the unloading crew he got to his car and found not only the battery dead but the battery pack as well so had to wait for a boost for over an hour. He had to find a phone cable, brush his teeth and hit the sheets at 4:50 am, wow that is a long day! But it did not end here, I will carry on on tomorrows post.

Dresser sale with a side of panic

I woke at 7 before H who did not come in and ask to go out till 7:30, nice! It was overcast with lightly falling snow when sun came out after 8. I made a pot of coffee, got Bruce going before feeding H then jumped in the shower. The robot is having a few issues and after half hour with the company tech they say the motor needs to be replaced, WTH?? 2 days use and I had to order a new replacement.

Next up was touch up staining of the floors and cabinet edges. Looks better I guess

Britt, Cooper and Dave (visiting after his big race weekend) were out after 1:30. I ground the flax for her feed supplements and they went to feed the 2 horses. They stopped for a visit after bringing the cats back with them and shutting off the light then headed to town after 3.

Being so cold Cooper became a lapdog :)

I went to do computer work and saw a fellow wanting to come see the natural wood dresser, sure. I headed down to get it ready and when I took the black placemats off that were on to protect the top I saw there were dark marks from the edges, no idea why. Panic set in trying to wash then erase the marks but no luck. So I ran and got paint, brush and sanding sponge and gave it a fresh coat. I tried emailing the fellow to hold off but the phone rang saying they were at the gate. Fresh paint not even dry. They measured the size to be sure it could lay flat in their car, checked out the blue one as an option but came back to the white one. I offered to let it dry and do the damask stencil on it and possibly deliver Sunday but they decided to take it freshly painted. I packed up a jar of paint to go along then the fellow and I hauled it up and out into their car successfully. Whew that all took less then an hour but all in high gear!

Shaina arrived back home from the city after 4 while we were chatting and off to her office. I fed Harley and got chili cooking for supper. Shaina and I visited over our bowls, seems she will be vacating the suite on Jan 15 to go sublet another place in Calgary for 3 months ;( I organized photos and worked on the blog before heading to bed after 8:30. The wind blew most of the day but really picked up again now. It was -17 when I went to bed and when I sent H out quick at 9 it was -25. The wind howled thru the night.

Balmy zero degree day

It was -4 when I awoke, wow the horses must feel tropical. The chinook winds were blowing but it is sunny. J was back again meowing at the door but not as intense as his yowling last night. What a cat. After feeding H I made a pot of coffee and drank 3 cups today. I got Bruce (the robot) cleaning then did some marketing, phone calls, plant care and laundry. The wind let up making for a lovely day that was warming even more. Seeing it was going to be a nice day with a break in the cold snap I tried to arrange pickup of Kaylin's stuff but no luck. 

Biggest birthday wishes to Mya who turns 13 and Asher who turns 11 today, we love you but please stop growing so fast! xoxo

Bruce kicked back into cleaning after his 4 hour charge just as the buyer for the coffee table walked in the door at 12:30. Odd character for sure but she did decide to take it and after a chat with her mom about her painful teeth and a smoke (outside of course) she and her mover friend loaded it up and on their way.

Britt was out before 1:30, she took food to horses while I caught Switch and took her in to trim her feet. It is 0 out!! She brought in Pepper for a tweak, KD and then Roo as I let Switch go and back to the house. I tossed the dogs kibble in the snow for a search and find. She continued with Bird and Biebs. I headed back out as she was finishing up offering to load her dresser and take to town. We did just that leaving the dogs to dry in the kennel. A quick trip in; unloaded it in her front entry, I bought us Opa then we came home to eat it.

Britt and Cooper headed home at 6 after putting Bird's, Pepper's and Bieb's blankets back on as the temperatures are heading back to freezing. I wrote a Hometalk post for the grey dresser from way back while guiding Bruce for yet another map clean. Harley has had the stinkiest farts the last two days/nights that make your eyes water. J was outside for the door for a bit complaining I am leaving him out again. The winds picked up again but it is -11 and by the looks of the upcoming weather they will be back to the garage soon. I was headed to bed at 8:30 after sending H out hoping she is good for the night. It was another late can't sleep This is Us episode evening.

Hello 2022 - let's clean

The cold snap carries on into 2022, -27 when I let H out before 7. I love to start the new year with cleaning so I got Bruce back to mapping the main floor then fed the animals. Harley got a new slow feeder dish, she is slower but messier!

A cappuccino before it had vinegar ran thru to clean out all the pipes. The vinegar solution that was ran thru was then used on my shower head. The sun is out in full force and started to warm. They say near zero today!!!

I did a bit of marketing then posted the white cabinet tutorial I had finished last week and shared on a ton of sites and to the sponsors. The gal buying it has arranged to pick up this Thursday. I carried on with laundry and cleaning. The tree was undecorated and the last box of stuff put in furnace room. I moved onto cleaning the garage fridge and meal prep area. Busting out the house vacuum to get dog hair under the kennel when moved for Bruce to access and desk too.

Britt and Cooper arrived out after 1 to feed and take off all horse blankets. I sent the cats out to get fresh air and check their mice areas seeing it is -12. I was tidying in the dining room and noticed a dark moving thing along north fence. I had seen it earlier too but never stopped to look. The binoculars showed a bald eagle with crows and magpies all around picking at something. I grabbed my fancy camera, pulled on boots and a coat and tried to run closer and get a better shot. 

Wouldn't you know it my camera died as she flew to a nearby pole which would have made a fabulous photo. When he flew off he was HUGE and could be seen for a very long ways.

I bundled up and headed out to see what was there and found this! The dogs and I headed back to the yard, checked on Bruce who was back to cleaning then B and I went out and scooped poop in arena. I drug over the quad trailer and we have it, the poop bucket and wheelbarrow all filled to capacity. Need the farm hand to help us get rid of it Tuesday. I hauled the tree box back from the mez after setting the cats up with food, fresh water and turning their light on. Tonight is supposed to warm over night even more and be nicer tomorrow before going back to a cold snap so this gives them exercise and mouse control for a few days. B and Cooper headed home before 3.

A gal is arranging to come look at the grey coffee table but after many texts and calls I am not sure when it might happen. I took down the tree and boxed it by the door again for assistance from the handy man. The room was put back in order which is always nice. Laundry and tidying continued with calls to Kaylin who was trying to get some of her items out of the townhouse which did not go so well. With only a cap, iced coffee and a kombucha today I grabbed a pepperoni, cheese and the last of the coleslaw. Next up was changing the bed linens, another fresh clean thing for the New Year.

The coffee table gal called back to arrange pick up tomorrow morning, fingers crossed. Time to write the blog. I headed to bed around 8 (to leave stinky H farts) and it was now -10, at 9 a huge chinook wind started up warming it even more to -6, the horses blankets B hung around the railing flailed all night. I shut off This Is Us after 1 but again not tired so took a sleeping pill only to be asked by H to go out at 5:30, silly pup!
