Roo returns to the ranch

Another hot one out there folks. I took off the muzzles and Lola pill at 9. I think the muzzles are working. In order to beat the heat I wanted to ride early. S came along with me and reluctantly ponied KD however it turned out great. We had a nice leisurely stroll around the winery and thru the other side neighbors canola test plots. We were back, hosed and released and inside for a cold beer and some lunch at noon.

Britt and Cooper were out after 1 as I was watering my garden. S came out to fill fuel into the truck so he could off load the tank to use for small bales. We were off at 2:30 for her last riding lesson at 3. It was a hot dusty watch from the sidelines for me but B and Roo did well. Then it was the big moment after she was untacked and brushed: she got to load up and head back to the ranch at 4. Three months away at school and it was time to return. 

She is a new horse with her bleached brown hair, weight loss and months of schooling.

The other horses had mixed feelings it seems but she was excited to eat grass. S was working on loading small squares from the mez on to pallets, then down to load on the small trailer. I helped guide him for 2 pallet loads right on the trailer then he got another load to put along the sides.

B had taken off for groceries leaving Cooper. We went in for a break in the A/C and some marketing for me and big brown for S watching the Flames. Supper was a Sheldon special; smokies with KD on the side and a couple roasted veggies.

Later we headed out to the shop/barn. S loaded another load down and onto the trailer totalling 50 small squares then he and I strapped them safely down and her delivered the trailer to the lady down the road after 9. B was back out after 8. She rode Bird while we were in the shop then she and I trimmed Roo's feet. Muzzles went back on the girls. B's dryer broke so after loading up her dry clothes load along with Cooper she was off for home around 10. 

Once back inside, S had more hockey to watch and I updated the spreadsheet and answered messages all day for tack items. One gal wants stuff mailed to Red Deer. I hit the shower after S who was back to TV room for hockey then I caught a Grey's. Lola spent the night on the deck as her leg is getting sorer it seems. I also added video I forgot on S's birthday post, go have a peek. Happy cake day to Candace P too!!

Holiday Monday

I started the day with a headache, rats. The horses had their muzzles off at 9 and it is already a hot windy day out there. S made his usual coffee and kicked back to enjoy. I had to get my Monday Instagram post done and share a blog post trying to catch up again. B and Coop came out before 10:30 so she and I could trim Bird.  She was off once finished Bird and fed her. Cooper is staying here for the day as B is off to the science centre to see animal bodies inside out.

I finally put on my new chaps only to have Bird's feet have oil on them.. officially dirty now ;(

I wrote a tutorial for the latest white S&P set, S was off to the TV room for the 12:30 Flames game after leftover lunch and fruit chopping. I did more marketing before heading out in the 30 degree heat to catch Switch and Pepper. Britt wanted him reassed at the chiro. My 2 pm appointment required a 25 minute wait in the hot sun sitting in the truck. Once it was their turn Pepper was thermographed and said good. Switch was adjusted and I had them loaded and off by 3.

Did I mention it was windy?

When checking tack in trailer we found the vent was damaged in the hail storm too. S did put duct tape over the holes till we get a new one.

The drying hot air was oppressing but not for Mr K who spent the day in the A/C watching hockey.. all .. day.. long. The warm day turned into a wind storm which finally brought rain at 6 as I was cooking supper. It only lasted about 15 minutes and only brought 1/2 a tenth but we will take it. The temperature dropped to a brisk 19 which I think the animals appreciated. Supper was the last Good Food seared chicken but the chicken looked off after its day in the sun so we skipped it and added some from our freezer. It turned out OK.

S was off to the TV room again for more hockey and I the computer. I ran out at 9 to put on muzzles, water my front pots that missed the rain. Britt was along soon after to pick up Cooper and head home. Tomorrow Roo comes home after 3 months at school. Time for some Grey's Anatomy.

Birthday boy

The coffee maker went off as the birthday alarm. I popped the bran muffins in the oven after going out and taking off the muzzles which Switch had mastered to get off.

S was given his birthday gift: pepper spitz, turtles and this super unique 1964 50 cent piece ring!

I had to get busy marketing seeing I have a giveaway on the go and wanted to put the vanity on sale. I also am way behind on the blog seeing we have been so busy the last 3 days. It is going to be another roaster as 25 already after 10.

S enjoyed his birthday morning relaxing in big brown after his yummy breakfast surfing the net and answering birthday wishes.

Britt and Cooper arrived right on 2 pm as I mentioned we would be leaving at bringing ice coffees, THANK YOU!! We got all loaded up and were on the road before 3 heading to Mackinnon Flats; birthday destination. When we pulled over the ridge and saw the masses of cars we were concerned it might be tooooooooo busy but low and behold we got a spot right near the beach someone had just vacated. Kaylin, Shaina and Devon arrived not long after and we set up camp for the afternoon which entailed high ground and water front areas. It was a lovely afternoon of sun and family visiting.

We loaded everything up around 7:30 B kindly drove us home. Back at the ranch everything was unloaded and set out to dry and S was off to the TV room to watch hockey. B rode Bird while I watered the garden then she and I trimmed Pepper.

After she and Cooper headed home I did a bit of computer catch up then started a Grey's anatomy in bed. S came up after the game ended and we started another Yellowstone but had to shut it down as he fell asleep in short order. Pretty good birthday I say with beach, beers, hockey and bed.

Tack assessment, sort and purge

It is going to be another hot one even though it looks like maybe rain. It was a humid blustery day. After our usual coffee I headed out to take of the grazing muzzles and give Lola her pill. I mixed up some bran muffin mix and pizza dough.

Britt was out after her 8 AM riding lesson. She and I tacked up and rode hoping to beat the heat. Then we got busy working on going thru horse tack. S worked on pulling fence posts and grooming the area to prepare for new railing behind the shop to the east fence line.

We did not stop till a chicken sandwich break after 2:30 then got right back to it. Man we have tack. It was good to sort and reassess. Looks like allot to sell too. After a nap S started to water trees through out the day. It is almost 30 degrees if not 30 today again but a real drying wind.

We had most resorted by 6 when B and Coop headed to town. I started updating the spreadsheet of all this tack while S caught hockey on TV. I stopped to make a pizza around 9 which was delicious again then I was back to the spread sheet and he the hockey in the TV room now till almost midnight. We then watched a Yellowstone episode making for a late lights out.
