Labor day

Today is labor day but not much labor was done to start. No creamer no coffee.. Kaylin was off just after 6 but the rest slept in. I did wipe down a single table, sanded the legs and added ultra grip to the super shiny laminate top and sides. I has to wait 12 hours now before painting.

Britt is keen to work with Roo today as she does not have tomorrow off. Shaina was up late morning and searched for rental places while I worked beside her on my old computer at the island on the blog and accounting. Britt and I ate a quick leftover lunch then ere off by 12:30. Shaina works at 1 so was not long after us. Roo started out naughty but once we got her in the arena she was keen to learn and had a great lesson session.

Once back in their paddock we were off and Britt surprised me with an offer to buy me a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks!! Thanks B, Lexi and I waited in the car wile she ran in.

We were back  after 3:30. It is a beautiful day only at 23 and little wind. I hauled out and got to work on a dining table sanding it down but after about half an hour my sander was acting up and crapped out.. and I was not done ;( Britt did brush Lola (she had trimmed her toenails earlier with Shaina's help) before she started packing for her trip. Before 6 she was off to town for supper with friends. I had just a skiff of paint in a jar so used it up painting 3 mason jars.

I had started to cook the smaller spaghetti squash but with no one here for supper I went back out to work the the table. Oddly the sander still was not working but I tipped and moved it trying to get the last part done and after a bit it started to work.. but not for long but I do think I have most of the finish off.

B was back with a doggy bag and more travel goodies. Shaina was home from her work day around 8:30 and picked me up some creamer, thanks!  Kaylin was home around 9:30 just as I heard a horse neighing in the yard, yep Shaina had left the gate down so she went out and caught Hawk and put him in the paddock. Sheldon was home at his usual just before 11.

slow Sunday

Britt ended up staying at Brooke's and getting home at 7, much under the weather. Kaylin was home after her very early shift before 11:30. We caught up as well as checked out all my film cameras in storage (the girls are interested in learning photography) before she was off to her room. She was not going to sleep but soon she was. Fine tuning sanding the edges of the dresser was my project then watering plants and harvesting my small spaghetti squash (2) and 2 big carrots.. crazy big ones!!

Setting up the new computer continued but it clearly is not running right nor is it any faster and of course many of the programs are no longer able to be used. I am thinking it might have to go back as has crashed 2 times yesterday as well today and not even 24 hours old.

I have been wanting to scrub the front door so got that down, shook the rug and scrubbed some yucky areas, so much better. My new fall Belgian mums are just starting to bloom. Shaina arrived home as I was finishing up.

Britt finally came up as we were chatting around the island, had a wee bite to eat and headed back to bed. I chopped up veggies for my hamburger soup (just one carrot was MORE then enough) and she returned to eat with us. Kaylin and Shaina went to town to celebrate Gail's 30th birthday. It actually rained in town but not a drop here ;( I soaked in the tub and tried to watch Fences but gave up after half way thru, just too slow.

another 33 day .. in September

Yep Saturday morning and I am fully awake at 7 after saying goodbye to B just a bit earlier.. UGH. Coffee was limited as I ran out of creamer too and Kaylin thinks my coffee is water.. she like double espresso though ;) I took her a cup of water around 9:30 and then made her a fresh strong pot to take on the road.

I dark waxed then clear waxed the lazy susan and was working on the other antique dresser when she was off to work after 10. I started to sand but looked like stripper was needed. Two coats to be exact and it was more like stain on the second coat try but it was all good. Now to sand, sand the top (which is thin veneer yet again) and all the drawer fronts. Repairs were done as well.

Shaina was up at noon as I was updating my FB post. She even fit in a workout on her relaxing day off. I tried sanding the crackle tray but no luck, this stuff is stuck on good. I did hand sand and then add lots of black and dark wax to age it. I had posted it on my page this am and it got a hands down no like, I hope this helps the appeal.

Shaina, Lola, Lexi and I headed out in the 30 degrees heat and walked the entire perimeter. It was HOT and soooo dry, the pups were sure thirsty when we got back. It seems it actually is now 33!!Shaina changed and  was off to the city for the evening around 4. I started setting up the new computer and although it should be plug and play it ate up a few more hours on tech support of useless HP and finally helpful Coscto concierge. Then it was drudgery of setting up, luckily Netflix kept me company. Smoke was starting to roll in pretty thick from the BC fires.

Britt was home at the usual 7 and hit the shower and was out the door before 9 for a party. I continued to work on setting up the computer and finished season 3 of How to Get Away with Murder. A huge wind storm blew in at 10 and lasted for a couple of hours. While waiting for Lola to come in out of it I brad nailed all the drawers on the antique dresser. Finally I had to trudge out and get her. Kaylin is staying in the city after her shift today at a co workers to hang out but also because she has a 4 am shift start!! Yes they have some big thing happening and it requires this start time. Shaina is staying at Jenna's too.

smoky haze lifting - Sept 1 already

Kaylin was the first out the door today closing mine at 5:45 to make coffee before she headed off. Britt was after leaving a bit earlier to hit Starbucks to get the pumpkin spice latte finally available today. Shaina who was sleeping with me had her alarm go off at 8:15 but she chose to go crawl into her own bed for another 20+minutes ;) I thought I heard noises on the deck but knew it was just her and I and Lexi in the bed and Lola in the garage but when I heard it again this is what I saw out my bedroom window.

I hustled out in my nightie and herded them back into the paddocks then made coffee. Princess S grabbed one on her way out the door. I did some marketing before getting busy in the garage. By the time I came in for a late lunch I had 6 projects nearly complete.

1- a maple cabinet door was painted blue then had crackle medium layered on, once dry a cream color went on and the crackle began

2- the boring spice rack I did yesterday called for some old world charm, I used the same blue and mixed in fresco powder and stippled on then when dry painted another cream color and sand back when all dry

3- the new dark wood shelf I bought in Airdrie was painted one of the creams in two coats and distressed back.. dark wax may come yet

4- while on a roll with the creams open and almost gone I grabbed an oak lazy susan. It was taken apart and painted cream

5- with a wet cream brush and still paint, I washed up a light wood salt and pepper set and gave them a coat too

6- and finally I had washed up a sweet oval tin the other night so it too got a coat of cream to start its makeover!

Shaina was home before 3 and was off to get showered and ready to head to the city and meet Kaylin to look at a rental place and go out for the evening. I had an email my parcel was delivered to the gate so the dogs and I walked down but there was not only 1 but 2!

Shaina was leaving as I got back before 4. I watered the flower beds, pots and gardens as it was again another hot day hitting 28. I was having a frosty refreshment when I noticed a couple horses in the yard so I moved them back into the paddock again.

check out my roses, above is a mini rose Kaylin gave me for mother's day I planted outside and it has buds and flowers and below is one of the hardy roses just blooming, they love this heat

Trying to wax my items in the garage proved a bit stifling as it once again has heated up in there so I moved inside to do while watching the news. The S&P, tin, long shelf and lazy susan base all were completed. Britt rolled in dust flying after 6 quickly changing and getting ready for Garth Brooks concert and was out the door before 7.

I was eating a late supper when I noticed what looked like a horse shadow running across the grass, yep sure enough Britt had left the gate open on her rush to the concert. Time for some hand painting on the lazy susan top once I got the 4 back in the paddock.

Back in the garage I tidied up and chose some handles for the tray and put little feet on it. I am not sure I am loving it and decided against the words hand painted on it as would be too busy. I was having peaches and cream when Kaylin got home after 10. Shaina was home around 11 but ran to town at 11:30 to pick up Britt and all were safely home by midnight!
