the reds are rolling in

Saturday the dreaded wind returned and the clouds were overcast most of the day. I was up by 8 as Diego seems to like that time lately to go out. Coffee and out to the garage to work of more projects. At 10:30 I heard Britt peel out of the yard, it was not long until a phone call came asking for food as it seems she was to be at work by 10 and forgot to set alarm! UM no sorry, phone a friend as I have a person slated to pick up purged frames and you need to get up on time. Apparently I was to remind her.. what?? She told me she did not work this w/e ;)

what do you think of my creative sculpting repair? I had to add more and tweak it a bit form last night.

I also added 2 more stripe to look like the grain sack craze that is so popular as the solid line looked like a Santa tray :-)

The fellow picked up the frames and back out I went. Hardware got touch ups, the dresser/hutch got 2 more coats of varathane. The custom writing desk got a few more repairs but Jessica picked out a new color and will send with Shaina tomorrow. She chose a barn red, ooolala.

New projects got started too, the bread box got 2 coats of red while the narrow frame was painted bold shoreline and top coated a couple times ready to roll.

Britt grabbed a few groceries for me on her way home from work. I kindly stopped work and cooked up supper for her but she fell asleep on the couch so I ate alone. Brandi stopped after supper with 3 new projects to get reloved. Our consult came up with enough ideas she needs to think and pinterest to see finished. The crappy windy cool day high of 5 even blew snow around as Brandi left but only lasted briefly.

Britt awoke and was off to a sleepover and party with Brooke after 8. I spent the next hour sanding the writing desk and hammering the top on, while sanding the area on top had been filled, the old putty was cracked and needed removing so out it came. This intrigues me, what was this area used for, it is inset on 2 sides and a ledge at the front like something slide in, any ideas?

Good Friday

Good Friday I awoke to sunshine but frost covered ground making it look like the snow landed overnight. It was -2 when I went to bed and -4 upon waking... is spring not here? It was a slow start, but coffee and creamer helped me. Two dogs and two cats had the same energy level.

The 11 am pickup surprised me at 10 as I was just preparing to get ready for the day. This frame will be used in a summer wedding for table setting info.

Time to get dressed and start the dreaded black glaze portion of the dresser. I say this now as I type and have finished. I forgot how hard glaze is for an OCD perfectionist. I started on the kitchen goodies and the last piece did not end so well when I just tried to tweak a portion already drying. It lead to paint removal and an entire repaint starting over, good thing it was small. Britt got up late after getting home late from hot tubbing and was soon off to the gym.

Now on to the big bugger. The funny thing is from start to finish you change your OCD aspects. I hope it dries to be something someone wants in their home. I finished up the base and drawers just as Kaylin and Jessica arrived. Jessica dropped apiece off to have reloved of her Grandma's. We enjoyed as visit with Gail and Britt joining us. The girls all headed home around 4 except Britt who got back to her art project.

I was back out in the garage glazing the hutch which I knew would be more of a challenge and it did not let me down. My Lanta... Hardware was sprayed as well going with black now that the black glaze has been applied.

Britt and I had pizza for our Good Friday feast :) She finished her art and was off to play guitar hero now the guitars arrived home via Kaylin. The mint jewel box buyer stopped out to pick up then I spent a couple hours back in the garage: painting a chalk stripe on the lazy susan, spraying the hardware yet again and starting Jessica's writing desk.

This definitely qualify in the antique,it has fantastic carvings in the drop down door saying Lynda+Kevin in a heart and a horse drawing and so much more. This has to be kept I told her. The repairs are typical with whatever they had on hand. I did repairs and rebuilt a missing section of a wood carving and gave it all a good scrub. Unfortunately the piece is stained red and it ran tons during cleaning. Jess wanted the yellow like the wash stand I did but I think we have to rethink it. I have suggested a few options along with stripping and staining the front of fold down door java. She has her thinking acp on, lets see what tomorrow brings.

Back in the house as after 9 to update the blog and Jessica with a frosty paralyzer then hit the showers!.

many projects on the go

Late Thursday had NO WIND!! yahoo. After a coffee and get Britt out the door for last school day before 10 day break I went out to distress the dresser/hutch.I buffed up the accent table and snapped a few pics.  A gal stopped to pick up some of the purged frames before lunch. Guess what lunch was... yep Chinese food, why does it taste just as good the next day?

I scrubbed up the sprayer and got varathane ready. I got a gallon that was 1/2 full at recycling. Not only do I save furniture from imminent death but also the planet with my paint recovery efforts. It is shocking for see new cans with $50 price tags on them and most almost full tossed out. Open, mix strain and use! First coat got blasted on and while drying I went out to recover tubs and such strewn over the yard.

I thought the forecast for snow luckily missed us but little snow balls started to fall as I began my yard pickup. It did not last long and blue skies could be spotted behind the clouds. However once the sun came out it was short lived and another snow burst came thru.

Time to get scrubbing the hardware,  I was thinking black but wonder if to strong with the soft grey? so now thinking white? what say you? I also scrubbed a couple of the kitchen pieces to start red and stained a board I plan to use as a prop in my coffee hutch. And a long wood frame which will become my last chalk board for awhile. It and the large board for dresser got a coat of black chalkboard paint.

A great customer and her wee spark delivered a couple boxes of girl guide cookies.. supper perhaps? :) I scrubbed up brushes, a task like changing diapers for a new mom then scrubbed my new insulators, I would think I have enough until I wash them and think I never can have too many, so pretty! I painted the first red coat on 3 kitchen items and now need a plan for the lazy susan. Stencil a quote, chevron, stripes or just add dark wax?? After good four hours drying time a 2nd coat was sprayed on the dresser and now it dried overnight for next step.

The snow continued off and on, grrrr but good to keep focused on painting. I painted another red coat and black chalk paint, scrubbed up the bread box ready to paint tomorrow and gave the red pieces a coat of poly too before coming in at 9 just as Britt got home from working after school. She finished up her Chinee food and was off to hot tub with friends at Grady's.

April fools day

April fools day was a crappy start to the month, the overcast skies held a high of 9 and continued the torrential winds ;( There was no fooling around today, once B was off to school and the main floor was vacuumed (mud is a spring nemesis) I was out in the garage. Today I took on painting the big dresser hutch combo. I chose a soft grey and made my own chalk paint up. My attempt in the sprayer failed epic so the hutch was hand brushed along with the base/drawers. It had a old look happening so I distressed the hutch before taking a break to think on it.

I sent pictures to AJ for a sounding board and with her always ray of sunshine optimism I carried on with this plan. She assured me no matter what I do it will turn out beautiful, I shall hold her to that , haha. I tried another attempt at plain paint thru the sprayer for the 2nd coat once the base was hand painted and it to was not quite right so out came the roller. It shall now dry good overnight.

In between the dresser process I also put a couple coats of wax on the accent table as well as doing a bit of glazing on it too. It shall dry too and be staged in the am.

Britt had today off work and hoped to go to a movie together but the horrid winds discouraged me from any farther than town. It actually sucked me and the door outwards while braced waiting for dogs to come in for supper. I had a well needed shower and we hopped in the truck and bucked the wind to town. Actually the one ton held its own for the most part ;) Britt chose Chinese for supper, of course enough leftovers to tide us over a few days isn't a bad thing. Then it was off to Walmart to restock dog food, $ store for more rollers a quick stop at the bank and Tims then to Amanda's. She was just putting the kids to bed but in exchange for the scrumptious chocolate macadamia clusters she trimmed up my wig, THANKS sister, you are the BEST! We enjoyed a nice visit before venturing out in the still blowing wind and headed home.

My nightstand auction ended tonight at 9 so had to contact the winner and update the blog while Britt headed to her room, must be for homework!
