Christmas Decor Starts Indoors

A hot tub soak was enjoyed right after our morning coffee in the beautifully calm, no-wind morning. A quick shower later and it was on with the day. I sorted and put away all the “smalls” I had in the basement "store" ready for the fall market, which led to reorganizing more of the furnace room and hauling out the Christmas boxes.

S spent part of the morning trying to sort out a New Year’s Eve concert plan with the Benbows, but it looks like we’re too late—hotel full and only general tickets left. Time to start thinking about a Plan B. Before lunch he headed outside with the chainsaw and chopped up the rotted bottle tree post from the island that had been lying there all summer. I set up the nativity to kick off the Christmas decorating.

S left for town after 12 to play hockey at 1. I got busy setting up the Christmas tree while watching another season of Project Bakeover on my iPad. After the initial turquoise-and-silver setup, I dove into my ornament chest—sorting, repairing, and deciding what to give away. I ended up decorating the tree with many of my angel ornaments… and wow, do I ever have a lot of them. The homemade ones needed some TLC, so those were fixed and tucked into boxes for future years.

S arrived home with his sidekick Cooper he picked up after 4:30. He fed the dogs while chatting with Craig, and I kept working away on the tree. Supper followed, though the prime ribs were disappointingly tough—likely from older cows.

We spent the evening finishing The Beast in Me series until 1 a.m., each with a jumbo fruit-and-yogurt bowl. B arrived around 8:30 after working late, fed, and then took Cooper home.

  1. Your tree is elegant as usual. Amanda says they will be at Paetz Christmas at the Senior Centre Christmas Day. What are your family plans?
