Today the driver made coffee and planned our drive to Oceanside. We enjoyed our yogurt and bananas sitting in the sun. So many windmills are to the west of us at the mountain pass area.
usual coffee and creamer start to the day
At 9:30 we had loaded up snacks, drinks (picking ice up at the host hotel ; Aqua Soliel) then set out. On our journey. The switch back up the mountain was a fun drive for Mario but would not want to drive daily. We continued thru the mountain area stopping at lake Hemet for a pit stop then continued our windy journey to Oceanside.
best thing packed, this little cooler
check out that windy road
It was surprisingly about 10 degrees F colder at the beach (63F). Our parking was our first blub of the day putting in a $5 for $3 parking only to see the words no change given as it greedily sucked it in the machine faster then a blink of an eye. Sheesh we need to read before we assume.
Our walk on the pier was brisk as we had dressed like Palm Springs tourist in shorts tank top and flips. Our beer and fried calamari at Ruby’s Diner was not overwhelming but it was a unique view.
Back to the car I requested my jacket from the trunk. This is where our day was about to go very wrong and stressful. It seems that S put the key fob on the roof as he went back to grab my jacket. Once in he opened the roof and we set off to cruise the strand before venturing home. It seemed like there was not allot to see or do and it was cool and traffic quite busy. Once we set off for the freeway with decided to put the top up at stop light. As we proceeded thru the light we heard a noise down the back of the car. We thought it odd but not worthy of pulling over to check ( this is where hindsight kicks you in the ass)
We continued on our super slow traffic ride home for the next couple hours. As we passed the main road in desert hot springs we turned to grab some supper as it was now almost 5 to take back to the apartment and more coffee. Trip odometer says we have gone 267 miles so far. As we got out to run in the car detected no remote. S stayed at the car while I ran in to get the groceries. He assumed the fob had to be in my bag so waited for my return. We checked the car thoroughly with zero luck. A call to the car rental said they would send a tow truck at our cost and an new key would be $250 us and there were no more convertibles we would have to take a downgrade. This was salt on the wound . We waited for tow to arrive at 7, drag the car on the flat bed then take us to the airport to get the damages and our new wheels. It turned out to be not as horrendous as they only charged $150 US for the key other costs to follow and had us a convertible. We loaded up and head back to our house to eat the now cool chicken (good thing for a kitchen) and salad (kept cool from my cooler) and a cold drink at 8. That is enough of this no good horrible very bad day, yes it is the 13th really, tomorrow will be better.
