Snowfall, Theatre Lights, and a Cozy Alberta Evening

The deep freeze continues, with temperatures holding in the –20s and light snow drifting through the day on a biting east wind. I jumped into the shower before my first coffee to get ready for our Christmas outing to the Rosebud Theatre. A hair dryer and curling iron were definitely required this morning. S, meanwhile, ate a leftover partial bagel burger for breakfast, topped up the car with fuel, tossed hay to the horses near the barn despite the wind, then headed in for his own shower.

We were on the road by 10:30, meeting up with Sharon and Darren, who generously offered us a warm parking spot in their garage for the day. From there we headed east, arriving in Rosebud just before 11:30. The Wylies hadn’t arrived yet, so we were seated, and once they joined us we enjoyed a buffet lunch followed by the highly entertaining Miracle on 34th Street.

Santa was OK standing behind them, no knee sits

Snow was coming down steadily when we stepped outside afterward. We made a quick stop at the bed and breakfast so Sharon could refill her belts, then carefully made our way back to Strathmore. After swapping car positions in the garage, we lingered over coffee with a splash of Baileys before heading home, picking up Cooper along the way.

Back at the ranch, I fed the dogs and we had a leftover supper. S disappeared to the sports room for TV while I curled up with Netflix. Later, he joined me for a couple of episodes of Abandons—extra interesting knowing how much of it was filmed right here in Alberta. B was out later in the cold, asked me to check a sore spot in her mouth, then braved the elements to feed and take Cooper home. We ended the night with just two episodes left in the season, saving a little something to look forward to tomorrow.

Look at the size of these grapes!!

  1. Bet you enjoyed the Rosebud adventure. I have not been since going with Mom and Dad ;-( They still offer me a free ticket to most of the opening nights.
