The hotel offered lots of activities and even with the best intentions to hit yoga and some of the others we only made mixology (which was basically concocting yucky drinks) and tequila tasting (again not the best class) but we did hit some evening shows. Unlike other places, this one did not have a dedicated theatre or shows. It did have events like a Mexican fiesta party with mariachi, traditional dancers and food and the drummers/fire show. Every night there was musical entertainment at the sunken fire pit area. A violinist gal was amazing as was a few single guitarists.
The food was unreal!! We never ate at the same place twice except the last evening we went back to our very favorite but missed hitting one we did not get too with this choice. Food presentation was top notch. Seafood was scrumptious but the beef was just as delicious. I had tortilla soup every day but one, it was so yummy. Sheldon topped up on seafood soup almost as much.
Drinks we really good too and served in fancy plastic wear, no need for an insulated tumbler here. You were not empty handed long either. The staff worked like a well run bee hive. Tips of course helped but it seems there is an issue with the cartel now that does not allow money exchange at hotels. So we had no way to change our money, even the on site ATM would not recognize our debit card. However once we did get pesos from town we caught up on as many of our waiters as we could. One fellow was telling us they make $100 US/month so really appreciate the tips. Wow, if that is true that is pretty slim.
The resort was huge, built into the side of a hill. There are at least 10 pools all with infinity edges and amazing views. Our room had the most amazing view. It was set up high giving an incredible sight of the migrating whales who could be found throughout the day blowing breaching and splashing about. The landscaping was so pretty and the grounds spotless. The beach could use a wee bit more straw and cigarette butt handpicking but I think the silly smokers are more to blame for that aspect. We also heard hurricane Katrina destroyed the beach and it took allot to get it back to where it is now. The sand proves that as it is much coarser then other areas but will come along.
Our room with its spectacular view also was well stocked. You did not need to bring any lotions and potions as they had all beauty products down to q tips. The fridge held loads of pop, water and beer variety's along with oreos, granola bars and chips! Who knew cold chips and oreos would taste so good. It had a kitchenette which we did not use other then the coffee most mornings. Of course I would grab some baileys on our way home in evenings to have some cream and clamato for the occasional beer on our wee deck. There were rooms next to use that had much larger decks with loungers but through the vacation we learned we were indeed upgraded to the vacation owner villas and that deck was about $200/night, small deck it is ;)
Renting a car is the best way to get around there and so easy. The roads are great and the toll roads stellar.
Cabo is loaded with golf courses and a fairly fancy one was right beside us. it cost $360 US PP/round so needless to say we did not venture to try. Pretty sure that did not include clubs ;) But we did skip across one tee box on our way around to a long beach on the other side. And we did stop at the clubhouse when on our last car day rental. Fancy
There are NO peddlers or markets even at this hotel which was so nice. The beach at Cerritos had the traditional ones and when not wanting to shop for anything, it becomes a real pain which made our trip even quicker at that stop. I prefer the neat little markets set up in Todas Santos if one was looking to buy.
We saw ads for camel rides but never camels. We did see two horse/riders on the beach and some horses in paddocks along the way. We saw lots of dogs of course, including the 2 that joined us on the same horse/rider beach. many of the dogs we saw were on vacation with their owners, how funny is that? On our tour to San Lucas we saw two cows cruising thru town bossing a dog out of their way as they passed it, haha. But the thing we saw the most was the resort resident iguanas oh and whales of course.
Oh and then there was our fish feeding experience too. In the spa you could pay $26 US for the little fish pedicure but with a wee bun you could get it for free on the beach from jumbo fish!
