Tires, Renn rodeo and Red Lobster

There were no requests from Harley to go out in the middle of the night or the night before. However, I woke up after 5 again and made mental lists. Then, I woke up after 7. It was time to browse through the pictures on Instagram before I had my coffee. Once S woke up, he got dressed and prepared to head to church.

After a shower, I wrote a Hometalk post for the back china cabinet then worked on blog posts. S returned home with teas and a donut, which turned out to be our lunch. It appeared that his tire guy wanted them to be picked up now, so we had to rush to pack up and leave. I packed up Shaina’s food that she had received from Grama P, but had forgotten. I knew I was forgetting something, but S was replicating GG waiting in the truck, so we set off. Twenty miles down the road, I remembered - the Boysis Christmas gifts from Grama and Papa. Fortunately, I’m returning on Friday.

So, it appears I mistakenly clicked on the wrong address of the guy. After finding we were at the wrong house, we found the correct one a few blocks away. Unfortunately, the guy wasn’t there. Despite receiving several texts suggesting we wait for 15-20 minutes, he eventually called us. He informed us that the tread on the tires was still good, with about 60-75% life left. This was a lie as one was worn and the other was only about 50% tread. Disappointed, we bid farewell to the guy.

On the bright side, S had another guy he was dealing with, so he called him. We headed to Airdrie, where he found one excellent tire right away. However, the other excellent tire was nowhere to be found. They spent almost an hour searching his Sanford storage  area without any luck. Nevertheless, S managed to take another tire in good condition. Thankfully, the temperature was a pleasant plus 8 degrees Celsius.

We then set off for the Boysis household, arriving before 4 p.m. Shaina had returned from snowboarding, K from work, and Renn was thrilled to be the center of attention. She’s such a unique character. And a pretty good ball rider (see below)

This little cowgirl can stick a ride, making Great Grandy proud. She did many rides then requested the crew get a turn as well.

then Bapa - I think it is so sweet how she pronounces Grandpa as Bapa

and finally auntie

She and I walked the dogs, then went on our own to look for any remaining Christmas lights. After the football game reached halftime, we headed east to our reservation for supper at Red Lobster. We had a delicious meal. Thanks, Grama and Papa, for the Christmas gift!

That is garlic on my crab legs, it along with all the handling to get my crab out made for a good hand scrub after :)

Papa had a stomach tube inserted to remove excess air from his stomach after an abdominal X-ray earlier today. It wasn’t a pleasant procedure, but it’s hopefully worth it. He also is now fasting til tomorrow, boo! The temperature dropped from plus 3 to -2 as we drove home. Harley was sleeping and not hungry, so she skipped supper. We wrapped up the evening watching some AppleTV till S fell asleep and I watched a bit more before I called it a night.

Tires needed

Brrr! It was -12 degrees Celsius when I woke up before 8 am. It was just another typical day, with pet feeding and coffee preparations. B had planned to run to the Hat asking us to join her, and she wanted me to make her horse food first thing in the morning. So, I got it ready.

Nathan sent me this absolutely sweetest video, these 2 are best buddies <3

The green magnolia table guy sent an EMT, so I marked the house as sold on all the sites. S searched for tires while he ate his oatmeal. B finally texted at 10 am. She had just woken up and wasn’t feeling well, so the trip has been postponed. The tire search initially led us to going to Calgary, but then he changed his mind. So, I continued watering the plants and updating my blog. S took a nap on the big brown couch before having leftovers for lunch.

Papa having a good lunch after getting his appetite back

I finished updating my blog, then out to check the coffee table top was now dry. It looked a bit browner than the base, which is a nicer color, but now it required the base to be painted or washed. I applied another layer of oil and moved it around to dry areas over the next few hours before wiping it off.

S resumed his tire search, comparing various prices and plans. When he went to check out the car tires, he found one with the cord showing through! YIKES! That’s why the car drove so scarily the last times for both of us. Consequently, he shifted his focus to car tires instead of his truck. I touched up the ruler names and then applied a final clear coat.

B was out to feed her horses then return home to rest. S added water to the hot tub and performed a shock treatment. Although it hasn’t been used frequently lately, the -2°C makes the tasks manageable. I watered the basement plants, and it seems I’m still a spider plant killer. I can grow fiddle leaf figs like a pro, but spider plants, not unless I plant them in my garden.

Late afternoon we started the movie Killers of the Flower Moon. It is a 3 1/2 hour movie so today was a good time to watch. We took a break at 6 so I could cook the last HF meal - chicken tikka masala. While cooking it up S found his Flames were playing. This captivated his attention now.

I was watching the Morning Show when S came in from the Flames’ win and wanted to finish the movie. This is a long movie that required yet another break for me to make us yogurt bowls. Finally, it finished after 10 p.m. I’m not sure I would recommend this movie. It’s long, and the awful truths it shares about atrocities against the indigenous people could have been told in less time. The characters are irritating, but I guess that means they did their job. After the movie ended, we watched a couple of uplifting episodes of Shrinking before going to bed.

Working on the projects & wind

It was another sleepless night for me. It appears that with young hockey players, the pace of the game is faster, and S pulled his shoulder again. He tossed and turned until after 1 a.m., then woke up at 3 a.m. He took a Tylenol, and I suggested using a bean bag, but he chose an ice pack instead. Harley went out shortly after he got back into bed. Naturally, I couldn’t sleep either, so I eventually put on a podcast. Soon after, S fell asleep, but I was still clock watching at 4:30 a.m. Then, I woke up with a headache before 8 a.m.

My dear friend Lori’s mother was rushed to Medicine Hat by ambulance. Upon arrival, they discovered a significant blood clot in her lung. She is currently in the intensive care unit, but I spoke with her earlier this morning, and her condition has significantly improved due to the medication she is receiving. I am grateful for the positive turn of events. I got up at 8 am to make coffees after feeding the cats. I made a coffee to go for Shaina when she left for her hair appointment in the city at 8:30 am. She will then go snowboarding at Panorama later today.

Shaina sent this cute photo of little miss who she was excited to see after her hair appt

S was on his laptop in big brown once up perusing the net, blogs posts and bison updates with a second coffee. I too had a second one but iced this time as I finished yesterday's blog. The forecasted wind gusts arrived mid morning and blew for the rest of the day. I hand painted the one ruler name but with Sheldon's friend coming after lunch tidied it up and will do the other later.

We had a bowl of soup followed by a quick kitchen tidy before his friend and son arrived around 12:30. They got visiting while I worked on the trunk tutorial wording and todays blog post. The 3 fellows headed out into the bluster at 2  to see heads in the shop before they headed home. I was painting the 2nd ruler when S was back in to big brown & his laptop.

I finished the trunk tutorial with all details, links, photos and videos having 3 ready to share over next month. I then went out to work on the coffee and antique fold down tables. The coffee table had danish oil in light walnut oil applied to the top. While it soaked in for 30 minutes I came in and did my Spanish lessons on my bed in the sunshine while S napped on the couch. I reapplied more oil and let sit 15 this time repeated 2 more times. Once awake S put fresh side pork in the oven and cut tomatoes for BST sandwiches with a packaged salad.

I did more oil floods and wipes to the coffee table top and will let it dry overnight and see if it needs more. The wind made a hot tub unappealing even though it was now finally warmer. I soaked in our tub while watching more Morning Show with S watching sports. B was out to do her feeding. S then had a soak, after he got out I scrubbed the tub and bathroom sinks before we relaxed in bed watching episodes of Shrinking.

Shaina runs to the Hat

Honestly, I woke up at 4 am once again and lay there, compiling mental lists until Harley wanted out after 5 am. This has to change, but I’m not sure how. I woke up at 8 am after eventually falling back asleep to a dreary -8 degrees. After browsing Instagram for a while, I got up, fed the cats, and made coffees. S’s was delivered to him in bed before I fed Har and got to marketing. He called to get his Dad’s overnight report, which was good. We also chatted with Mom K. Shaina was up and ready to head out to Medicine Hat. I had planned to go along, but this cough and nose-blowing persist, and I wouldn’t want to give whatever we have to anyone there. So, I declined. She left at 9:45 am with a stop in town to change her oil first.

While the videos of the trucker loaded on yesterday’s blog, I photographed the staged the trunk. S was updating his bison list and prepping tax info. I checked in with Boysis house, and K & N are still feeling unwell, but Renn is finally feeling better. YAY!! She was off to school—fingers crossed she now has more immunity.

S got the humidifier running. In the past, it caused the furnace room floods after clogging with crud. I then tidied up the furnace room  after all the Christmas chaos. Before noon, S had a bowl of soup and headed out to roll out a partial bale of hay. He gave Harley a bison leg, which she was thrilled about. The temperature has risen to plus 1 now. I had a bowl of soup and caught some of the depressing news before returning to the computer to create a before-and-after photo for the trunk.

S left for hockey at 1 p.m. while I was working on the trunk tutorial. Spanish lessons were next, followed by putting the names on the twins’ rulers. Harley kept going in and out throughout the afternoon, chewing on the bison leg and then resting and warming up. As I was loading videos into tutorials, I found one that I had forgotten to load. It showed Sheldon cleaning up rum. Be sure to check it out at the bottom of this blog post.

Light snowflurries began before 4 p.m. and intensified by 5 p.m. when S returned home from hockey, had coffee, and grabbed a few groceries. I was preparing the next HF meal - salmon with gremolata butter for supper. As we were eating, the snow stopped around 6 p.m. This meal was incredibly delicious.

I began a new Morning Show while S was engrossed in watching hockey. However, he abandoned it when he realized that the Flames game was not being aired. He decided to come in and watch a movie instead.  We watched Argylle - a fun spy movie. B was out to feed as per usual and in to check on any updates as poky Bird ate. After the movie was over we watched a few Shrinking with Shaina arriving safely back from her trip to the Hat at 10. She gave us an update of the day. Papa spent most of the day sleeping, he did say a few words and squeezed her hand before going back to sleep but it did give her and Grama time to visit while he napped. He had an EKG mid afternoon with no results yet.
