Pumpkin Cookies, Piggyback Rides & a Record-Breaking Bedtime

Renny crawled in with me around 2:30 am and we were both drifted back to sleep. I woke at 7:30 to J loudly ordering his food, and not long after that Renn was stretching beside me saying, “It’s morning, Nana!” We chatted until 8 before heading out to visit with Matt, who was already up. I made him a  coffee, and he was soon back down to work.

Renny had some breakfast, and once Grandpa and Auntie Shaina were up, they headed out for a hot tub after their coffees. Renn had a shower and got dressed for the day while Shaina worked on her project and kept up with some work messages.

Every chance I had someone entertaining Renn, I worked away at Monday’s blog, which had a ton of photos and videos to sort through. Shaina also mashed up a bowl of guacamole, which was inhaled so quickly that poor Matt was left with only a skiff when he finally came up after his meetings.

After grilled cheese for lunch, Renn and I took an apple out to see if Mac wanted it. She was having none of it, so Renn took it over to Switch instead. As we passed Matt heading toward the barn, Renn decided a quad ride down the road was in order, so that became part of the afternoon too.

I finally finished Monday’s blog and hit publish just after Shaina and Matt headed out the door a little after 1:30 to make their way back to the city. S was napping on the couch while Renn and I made the surprise of the day — pumpkin cookies!

We also took Harley for a walk, visiting with the horses along the way. Renn hustled all the way out there, but apparently the return trip required a piggyback. As she settled onto my back she announced, “Nana, I feel tired again!” Yikes. No nap for this little miss today!

Back at the house, we played and watched some funny videos while Grandpa slept on the bed. Once he woke up, I left Renn in his care and made a quick trip to town so I could get to the post office before 5. I grabbed milk, blueberries and raspberries at the grocery store, filled my growler and was back home in less than an hour.

While I was gone, Grandpa and Renn took the Ranger over to the winery and picked a few fresh raspberries. Supper was leftovers, which means the fridge is finally starting to look a little less full. We had KFC, potato and kale salads, with Renn happily finishing off all her cheesy noodles. Fresh berries and two pumpkin cookies rounded out her supper.

Her supper creation of blueberries and cheesy noodles!!

The Flames had their season opener, so that had Sheldon’s attention for the rest of the evening.

Nathan FaceTimed Renn and she was uber excited to see him. Auntie B arrived just after the call and drew up Harley’s new Librela shot, which was over $170 for just 1 ml! It is supposed to last three months, though, so we are going to try the two-pack and see how she does with it.

Once Renn said her goodbyes to her Dad, on went her coat and boots and we headed out into the dark to find Auntie B feeding the horses. We walked back to the house afterward and gave her a hug goodbye. I gave Harley her shot and Renn gave her a treat.

Inside, Grandpa got Renn an ice cream bowl while I helped her into her PJs. Just like every night, she had her calcium and magnesium supplement on her ice cream spoon first before powering through her bowl.

Teeth brushed, hair done, hugs, four stories and a very short song later, she was fast asleep by 8:45 — a record! I was in bed reading by 9. S was up after the Flames loss, and I finished up my reading before lights out around 10:30. :)

  1. Meds are expensive but if they relieve Harley's pain it is worth it.

    1. Fingers crossed they do, there is also the hype about the meds doing more damage health wise so always a concern too
