Hockey, Fresh Nails, and a Traveling Zucchini

I woke very early today — it was still dark after 6 — but didn’t get out of bed until after 7 to make a coffee and post a blog entry. S was up soon after, making his coffee and relaxing with it in bed.

S ran over to Matt’s for a quick troubleshooting call before returning to park the trailer in the shop. I jumped in the shower and then tossed hay to the chubby horses. The internet repairman arrived at 10:30 to replace the radio and check the settings — funny enough, it turned out to be the same guy who installed our Shaw satellite.

While S headed off to hockey at 11, I got to work moving all the furniture out and sweeping under the truck hoist — a serious workout with thousands of dead flies to deal with! Once things were tidy, I pushed the dolly of dahlias out into the sunshine. The repairman was finished in about an hour, and I moved on to catching up on blog posts. I’m still so far behind with all the photos and stories waiting to be written.

Midday, I discovered a whole loaf of bread gone moldy, so I made a town run — picked up fresh bread, returned the fancy pack of eyelashes, grabbed my favorite Opa lunch, treated myself to a $1 Ice Capp (Blue Jays 9-hit deal!), and got my nails redone.

I dropped off a box of potatoes to Amanda and stayed for an hour-long visit. Sounds like the teachers strike will continue for next week too.

Back at the ranch by 3:30, S was home washing the Fireball again, this time using rainwater to avoid the water spots from yesterday’s house supply. It was a beautiful 19 degrees, so I took the dogs for a walk — though the wind down the lane had quite a bite to it. Once back at the house, I brought the plants in, gave them a good watering, and fed the dogs a bit early before finishing and publishing another blog post.

S parked the truck on the hoist to dry and did his usual laptop browsing while I got supper ready — a mix of homegrown and well-traveled ingredients. My last fresh zucchini (which had toured the USA in the trailer fridge!) was cooked up with garden onions and tomatoes, while S reheated last night’s veggies and cooked sausage on the BBQ— also a cross-border traveler! Pumpkin spice muffins made a cozy dessert.

After supper, we finally had our first hot tub soak in a month. It was relaxing, but at only one degree warmer than body temperature, not quite the steamy experience we’d hoped for — time to turn it up for next time. We ended the evening watching the Blue Jays pull off a big win, followed by S catching sports highlights while I read a few chapters before bed.
