Amanda woke and joined me as Dad passed away at 6:58 am. Such a gut wrenching feeling even knowing he was no longer going to be poked, prodded, turned and bothered. No more sweat pants or pureed food. Dad can now don his Wranglers, a cotton western shirt ;probably black and red, scarf, cowboy boots and spurs. Topped off with a felt Stetson. I told him to crack a cold beer or pour a scotch and of course have a pinch of chew.
Mom, Sheldon, Shaina arrived quickly as did TJ, Dale and Stacie. Vance and Mya joined in a bit. Lots of hugs and tears. Such a sad day ;(
There were lots of stories shared over the last few days. They all honor our Dad, Grandy, Great Grandy, brother, and husband. Mom stayed with Dad till the funeral home arrived. AJ, Shaina and I ran to the farm to shower. Harley was happy to see me after so long. And Cooper too who stayed with Sheldon’s care much to Britt's concern. S was not long behind us. TJ popped out to with Tim. Dale’s went to cook breakfast for us all. We all met there for a lovely meal. THANKS guys. Plans were made for a service for Dad December 30th @ 1pm at the Oyen Legion.
Dale, Vance, Sheldon and I went and cleaned out Dad’s room and loading into Mom’s car. She had things to do there before meeting us back at the farm. It has seemed so much longer than it was. Time to head home and decompress. And feed dogs who were out of food. Thanks to TJ for the bag of deer meat for H and kibble for Coop. We loaded up dogs. Shaina drove Amanda’s expedition. We met back in town to help her fuel up then set off west.
We arrived at the ranch at 6. Dogs were happy to eat. We poured a rum and coke in Dad’s honor. Britt arrived around 7. She had actually left work at 11 and had a chill day. She pulled out a puzzle and got to work. S cooked up chicken wings and KD with a bagged salad on the side. :) B and Coop headed off later and we went to bed.
