Mr Jenkins moves back to the ranch for a night

The cold symptoms increase as coughing thru the night and other sinus filled upon waking. It was a good thing S hunkered down in the other king bed. I was up and marketing with a couple caps. The last one was after retrieving the sheets off my garden. It did not freeze last night but it did hit 1 above. Looks like another cool fall day out there. S woke and came up to make his coffee just before 11:30.

We ate a hot bowl of soup and caught a bit of the news. Once my laundry load was in the dryer and the dishwasher had ran thru we headed off to our Covid testing appointment in the city. We stopped and opened the winter pasture gate on the way by and were on the road at 12:30. We took a detour thru Langdon to grab a hot beverage at Tim's then off to our appointment. The drive thru was at the south end and took about 25 minutes to get thru the line and 6 minutes to get checked in & swabbed.

Our next stop was a detour to Okotoks to meet a guy and get a new circuit board for our gate that has been acting up. It was an easy curbside drive by purchase. Then we headed back to the ranch arriving back at 3:30. I tried to rest and watch a Trinkets episode but I can't lay around during the day. Once it was done I went out and put another coat of stain on the custom end table. S had no problem relaxing in big brown.

Britt dropped J off while we were gone as he had a bad night last night yowling and totally upset for 6 hours. She was back out at 4:30 after her chiro. We tacked up and went for a leisurely ride around the hay field while S came up with a wood door block for the cat in/out and we will lock him in the shop at night. He also tightened all the gates while he was out and about.

B was off for home with just Cooper after 6. We came in for supper; I hopped in the shower while S cooked spaghetti. After eating he was off to TV room for hockey and I crawled into bed around 8:30 after finishing marketing and tutorials. S ran out and locked J in the shop before dark which is now around 8:30. I finished Trinkets season as well as Good Girls season 3.

Sickly house ;(

Yesterday was the clogging of the left nasal passage and today it is the crackling ears. It has been quite some time since I was ill so guess I have to let it run its course. Sheldon however may be on deaths door ;) He was not even making coffee this am but after Matt and Theo were outside the door at 9 having had the gate not open to return the skid steer he had to don his housecoat and follow them to the gate to open it and bring the skid steer to the winter pastures gates. He checked rain gauge on way in and we got 6/10ths overnight and very thankful for that. Once completed he was back in bed till after 1 to get up and eat some onion soup broth I made him then back to bed.

I spent the am working on blog posts, tutorials and writing 2 new mailchimp campaigns. It seems I did all the work on the wrong one but eventually got it sorted. If you did not get it emailed to you as a subscriber you can find it HERE. I had hoped the Lipton soup mix was chicken noodle but it was onion so a peanut butter honey toast was my lunch. I drove down to open the gates just before just as Britt drove in. She wanted to feed Bird so I closed the gates back up and back to the house.

I put another coat of dark stain on the end table and a few more sprays on the coffee table. B brought in all the liquids in the tack room seeing they are forecasting frost. She was then headed back home with her furries after 1:30. I was back to my afternoon project, writing a very in depth tutorial for the antique buffet. Once complete it had to be emailed to sponsors and posted on many sites.

I had a lady buying tack so ran out and got the items bagged up and waiting on the deck. S finally rolled out of bed at 5 but only made it to the couch. The gal stopped around 5:30 and after her quick curbside pick up she was gone. I had put burger on to make hamburger soup for supper so chopped veggies and got it completed. As it simmered S left the house to walk and retrieve the skid steer and put it in the shop then back to the couch.

We ate the yummy soup while catching the late news then S was off to the TV room for hockey. It did get to 13 today but is possible to freeze tonight. I went out and covered my squash/zucchini plants, mixed up Switch's herbs and fed her and took the veggie scraps to the others. It sun showered and cool wind while I was doing all this but there was a pretty full rainbow. I did recruit S from the TV room to pull my 2 big pots into the garage while I was out in the rain.

You may notice one of the sheet over the squash may indeed be my bed sheet. It seems it wore thin and ripped the other night and seeing I needed a large sheet I pulled it off to use. After my computer work I crawled into my freshly made bed. I convinced S we should try not to breathe/cough all over each other so he set up came in Shaina's room and watched the first Equalizer.

Rain finally

Stupid magpies had me awake after 7 as they were eating the last of my very few apples on the tree and picking in the garden, grr. I perused the net but got up by 9 and made a cappuccino. The big rain has yet to come. There were 7 drops on the window at 9 but then nothing. I wrote a tutorial for the round stenciled coffee table before driving to the winter pasture gates to open for the horses and put up the yard hot wire.

Another bridle was sold so I packaged it up and got the label on. S finally got out of bed after 12. He did get up to make himself coffee then back to bed. He called HR and with his cold it seems he is to self quarantine for 10 days. After chowing down he moved to big brown. I headed out to the garage to start the custom table. It was hand sanded then hauled out to power sand.

The customer bought this freshly painted in a white base and grey top

Then once all the hand sanding was finished it was hauled back in and a coat of dark stain finishing oil applied. Then I hauled out the latest coffee table and sanded edges. S did get dressed and leave the house at 2:30 to hang the gate then back to big brown.

Britt and the gaggle arrived as I was spraying the sanded edges of the coffee table with shellac. She trimmed Bird while I caught Switch then she and I went for a very relaxed ride thru the winery. Back at the barn it was herbs for them and released back into the winter / 3 paddocks. They never went out once in the big field so in for the night. B loaded up the gang and off to town around 4:30. I dug fresh potatoes on my way past for supper. But first a hot soak in the tub as the bones are aching. S followed suit while I prepped supper.

Rain finally came down after 6 in a slow drizzle. B said they had been getting it in town since am, ;(. Tonight was an early to bed night. We started a movie with a smoothie I whipped up to soothe the throats but soon turned it off as lost interest. S went to sleep and I watched 1 Good Girls then started season 2 of Trinkets.

Fencing almost complete

Both of us woke in the night with a super sore throat.. Kaylin? Asher? Seeing today was forecast as hotter then yesterday we aimed to get out to the fencing fairly early. This goal was achieved as I left the horses out into the big hay field just before 10. They were stoked to find alfalfa and oats at the well head sites.

We got busy finishing installing the gate and rails. Luckily we had lots in the stash and used some that had been broke for the shorter edges. Recycle reduce reuse.

small gate added between barn paddock and closest

inspector crew

railing done to winter pasture, just need gate

Two hours later as the temperature climbed we hit the A/C for lunch and one of us a nap. I worked on tutorials until we ran to town after 3 to pick up a new 16' gate for the new opening. We also tossed trash then looped thru Tims so I could run in and get us an ice cap. Back at the ranch it was unloaded, the shorter one loaded up, taken to the storage area unloaded and we headed back into the A/C. It was now 30 out!!

Some found their way into the east paddock

Britt and her peeps were out just before 5 informing us the Kentucky Derby was about to start. We watched it then she and I went out to trim Roo and Pepper. The heat was a challenge but we got it done. They are forecasting a real drop in the temps and rain for the rest of long w/e so we wanted to get it done. She did a yard tour for dog poop while I started tacos for supper. S was in the basement watching hockey but did drive to winter gates in the merc and lock horses in.

He joined us for super delicious tacos then back to the TV room for hockey. The condo kids were off, I tidied up, showered and finished up my computer work. When the hockey was over we watched The Equalizer 2. It was good. S was off to sleep and I watched the last Unwell I could not finish last night.

Today would have been Grandpa Ball's 100th birthday, cheers in heaven Grandpa!!
