Dresser pick up day

Shaina has class at 9:15 so being aware of it I was awake before 8 trying to rest a bit before waking her, When she did get up, poor Lexi knee was very sore making her a 3 legged doggy for the rest of the day. I did give her Metacam after Kaylin's go ahead after 11 but it did not help much, poor girl.

S made coffee, Shaina grabbed one and an apple I set out and was off for her morning at the gym. Time to prep the dresser and mirror for a quick staging photo before the fellow arrives at 11. S moved out the car and held the mirror in place. It turned out lovely I think. He was then off to rest before the fellow arrived to load it. I started clear and dark waxing the coffee table.

After stopping at Sharon's and being directed back here, the customer was closer to 11:30. We got him loaded up and he then checked out more items I had and enquired about paint classes before he set off after 12. S went and rolled a bale out for the horses then hit big brown for his delayed Tuesday. My paint parcel arrived, now I can paint Debby's tables.

Shaina was back after 1, she and I worked on a letter she was writing while S mixed up some tuna for our lunch. Next it was accounting for her new investing with IG while big brown captured S. I did run out and give the 2 horses their supplements since they were at the shelter. It was another really nice day around 15.

left plain, right dark wax

I finished up the coffee table dark wax and hauled it in. I haled out the dresser to sand outside seeing it was nice and the breeze worked in my favor. Hauling it back inside the garage I scrubbed it down while S&S played barber before Shaina was off to the gym again with Lexi for 5:30 then home after her boot camps.

The electoral debate was watched over a cold beer and leftovers. Prince watched with one eye at time from his comfy chair not eating till it was over. He was then off to bed. I started watching Shameless on Crave and was tired before 9:30, what!! I closed it all up and was just drifting off when S phone went off. I tried to answer then checked my phone and saw the dresser buyer liked his dresser but it smelled like smoke.... WHAT! I got up and replied to him for a few conversations and watched more Shameless till almost midnight. I almost had an early night ;)

Dresser mirror woes

After my cappuccino and a bit of marketing I headed to the garage. The dresser guy was debating the mirror so I just went cleaned it up, sanded and painted it. He also is thinking he wants to change the hardware.. sure buddy you can do whatever.

new coffee, only $10 for this wee bag

I painted the base on the coffee table a warm creamy white. Then back to the mirror to sand and white wax. Of course I had issues with the paper sticking... grrr It ended up taking almost as much time as the whole dresser to complete.

The morning was overcast but the sun came out in the afternoon. Late afternoon when it was around 14 I walked out to give Bird and Pepper their supplements. Bird was not wanting to be caught but eventually I wore her down ;) On my to do list is scoop dog crap off lawn as snow is all gone so I hauled around the bucket and got most of it. The bees had overtaken the one full wheel barrow.

Back inside I ate supper then put another coat of white on the table base. I was then back to the mirror. Paper dried under the edges in a few places and driving me crazy. I used every tool to get it out and finally an amazing brain wave, orbital sand paper. The soft backing on the mirror will not scratch and the gritty side smoothed the edges!! YEAH, what a great idea. There were a few wee touch ups to be had too. I think it is now complete, at least till tomorrow ;)

I sanded the coffee table base when dry and did a few touch ups. Washed a pile of brushes and added silver glaze to the 4 faux tin tiles for a bit more metal looking. I called it a night after 9, Lola had come in earlier to eat, Shaina was to arrive about now but was running late not getting here till almost 10.

Inside I worked on the usual blog updates. Sheldon arrives home tonight after his extended week up north. He is going to be sacked and out of sync for sure. Looks like Thursday will be the new Tuesday. He was home a bit later then usual at 11:30 and soon sound asleep.

Sewing day

Lexi was up just before 8 so I let all 3 out, made coffee and got to marketing a wee bit, Lex managed to wedge herself in the area between the iPad and me ;)

Britt was up just after 9:30 and not long after a coffee she was out administering the 4cyte to the 2 and checking the 2 chiro patients. I hauled out the sewing machine to sew up 2 rips in the horse blankets I was washing up. They were all fixed up with iron on fusing and patches.

Seeing I had the sewing machine and iron out, Britt got her material we found at Walmart a few weeks back for a couple scrub caps for surgery. She was supposed to be finding a pattern but no luck. I looked for a bit and asked a friend but then got her sketching out a pattern. This was quite a learning curve for her. Eventually we fine tuned the pattern to look good but wanted to try it on some test fabric. Luckily I have a whole box full. I pulled out some blue horse flannel and we cut out our pattern pieces.

the new material and the scrub cap she has to recreate, it is reversible

 here is how it fits

We were just getting started when Amanda and the kids stopped for a visit. They are always fun to have around. Amanda helped with  pressing a few pieces too. After about an hour miss Aislyn was ready for her nap so they were off after 2:30. Our first cap was finished by 3.

Aislyn testing out the scrub cap and visiting with Lexi

 test cap complete

Now onto the new material. We whipped up (B was the ironing lady) this one then found it too short in the head band area so added a bit to the pattern and cut out another in the next 2 colors. This one was now too long so we customized it with a folded back band, perfect and Britt's new favorite.

finished but she felt to narrow on forehead, this was due to double seam

She kindly ran to town to buy us Vietnamese supper. Thanks B I appreciate that. I remembered I double folded the straight edge on the other so taught B how to pick out stitching, another fun sewing task ;) I resewed it to perfection so now she has 3 new surg caps!! What a long and brain gyming day but total success in the end. I guess we can wing it sans a fancy pattern.

all picked out and ready to resew

B helped clean up then she and Cooper were off for home around 7:30. I caught up on messages and a marketing post, made a smoothie then hit the tub to watch more Cheating Death episodes. I noticed a YEG sign and yes this guy is from Canada and guessing Edmonton. I am not sure I am a total believer of all his findings but it does make the mind question some.

April Fool's day

Monday Monday, April Fools.. but no fooling here just the usual dog letting out and painting. I got going on the dresser testing a drawer from with distressing and white waxing. The customer changed mind on distressing so touched up the drawer front and continued to white wax it all.

both tops are white waxed and bottoms plain

Once dry it was buffed and the hardware put back on. The narrow top drawer had to have the felt lined drawer bottom back in and power nailed in place. It looks really nice. The high end limed oak look is really pretty and he likes it.

I covered the tables till the paint arrives and hauled out the next dresser in line. It was taken apart in the front and glued and clamped and a few veneer pieces filled in.

Travis stopped around 3:30 for a quick visit, dropped off a parcel for Sharon and took the two home to Oyen. I helped him get his dog knee surgery at the vets here and hopefully into my acupuncture gal for his bad back.

I continued my horse blanket laundry process. Around 6 I headed out to catch horses to take to Murray. Bird and Switch were easy but Roo required a bucket of food to catch. Of course then she would not load. B arrived just in time to help get her in, grab a coat and we were off at 6:30.

Murray worked his magic straightening roos front right leg and unpinching Bird's nerve. Success!!

On the way home we stopped for fuel and a hot chai tea as it was brisk out. Back at the ranch, B gave the 4cyte to Pepper and Bird (this is a natural glucosamine we are trying for 2 weeks) and may get for Lola. B is going to try the human grade.

see Bird before and after

It is now after 8, another very late supper. I called in another coupon from the B, pedicure. Balancing on the edge of my tub I enjoyed my foot treat.
