Early Starts, Foggy Mornings & A Full Day of Catch-Ups

It was an extra-early start for S, which of course meant an early one for me too since I’m such a light sleeper. He was up at 4 a.m., heading out to roll a bale for the horses before leaving for the bison butchering. While he was outside, I tucked snacks into his lunch and slipped in $100 for tonight’s big poker game—here’s hoping he can triple it.

He was on the road before 5, dropping off the gifts I’d wrapped and the fresh oysters I picked up for Mom at Costco on his way to Acadia Valley. I managed to drift back to sleep, only to wake with the same headache I’d had at 4 a.m. Time for meds and coffee.

I enjoyed two coffees while chipping away at marketing, which is very behind. I picked three followers to gift the jars to, but still no one has claimed the accent chair. The rest of the morning was a mix of blogging, accounting, and fine-tuning the gift list. The day started foggy—S’s early bale roll and drive were both through thick haze—but by noon the sun finally broke through.

Since our TV officially blew up, I spent a good portion of the afternoon researching replacements. After chatting with TV companies and Costco, I finally settled on one and ordered it. Fingers crossed this one works.

B and Cooper came out after 2, fresh from getting new tires put on this morning. She fed and trimmed Bird’s feet while I jetted into town for a 3:30 tea with Sharon. B tried to walk Harley with her and Cooper—no luck there.

Sharon and I had a lovely three-hour catch-up over tea and banana cake. Our visits are too far apart, so there’s always a lot to cover. Afterward, I grabbed my prescription and filled my growler with iced tea—$10 Wednesdays!

In the east, S and the crew wrapped up the 7-bison cull by 3 p.m., then he headed back to Oyen for fuel and to pick up parts from Dale at Napa. After that, he made his way to Mom’s for a much-needed shower and a nap. Refreshed and ready, he was off again—back to Jarrod’s for the big poker night kicking off at 7:30.

Back home, I fed Harley and put away the two cases of her food that arrived while I was gone. I uploaded videos and published yesterday’s blog, then had a tuna sandwich for supper. I laughed to myself driving home—why didn’t I think to grab something easier?

A win for the day: Danielle S bought the cancer-donation chair. If it had been a day sooner, it could’ve gotten halfway to her for free!

After finishing up computer work, I headed to bed at 8:30 to watch more Big C. A long day, but a good one.

Snow, Spa and A TV Craters

The day began at a mild –1°C, the chinook winds having worked their magic overnight. After our coffees and showers, we jumped into the day. I posted the three paper vases as a Giving Tuesday freebie for my followers, then helped S with his haircut before loading up the items I needed to take to town.

If Chomp chomp eats, maybe Renn will too

A quick little storm rolled in around 11:30, dumping bursts of snow for the next few hours, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying our chicken sandwiches for lunch.

I started uploading photos—yes, for the third time—to order prints, but had to cut it short and race to town for my 1:30 dermabrasion facial. Naturally, I hit every red light and slid in with one minute to spare. It was a lovely, relaxing hour. Afterward, I dropped the huge box of vases and planters at the flower shop next door, and the owner kindly gifted me a bouquet.

The errands continued: dropping mail (including yet another Nespresso pack), returning items at Purolator, picking up Cooper along with jars and tins I left on her step to give away, delivering a box to the “take it or leave it,” donating a large bag to the thrift shop, grabbing a few groceries, and dropping off the food bank bag — all before heading home.

S had spent the afternoon wrestling with the surround-sound issues. Still no real explanation why the new Shaw box refuses to plug and play properly but has a few ideas to fix. His next project was sorting the hundreds of lightbulbs we inexplicably own. If anyone needs a bulb… call Sheldon.

I trimmed my pretty gifted flowers and uploaded the 140 photos once again, finally getting the order submitted — only to realize I forgot the ones I need for Christmas cards. Of course.

The accent chair I reglued was posted as another Giving Tuesday project. If interested in it the buyer pays $25 and I will donate $100 to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Supper was instant-pot prime ribs with potatoes and a salad. The Flames were playing early, so while the game was on we used the food sealer to package all the Costco chicken pieces. And then — because this is our life — the TV suddenly shut off and refused to turn back on. Absolutely dead. Naturally this happens the day after I returned the other two TVs saying everything was fine. Unreal.

Bluey family tub fun

B came out for a quick feed and zipped home with Cooper. After a brutal Flames loss, we retreated to the bedroom, finished season two of Mr. Mercedes, and started season three — but after one episode, we’re pretty sure we’re done with that season.

Time to call it a night.

City Errands, Photos Uploaded & A Whole Lot of Driving

Another regular day on the ranch, kicking off with me publishing the table-top tutorial while S loaded the finished pieces into the truck for delivery to Medicine Hat today with plans to carry on to bison butchering. Once posted, I shared it across all the sites and paint groups.

OMG - this is the funniest video of a clip of the other night Nathan brought renn downstairs to let Kaylin sleep. Watch it all the way to the end as it will make you giggle. And see just how tired Nathan was to sleep thru the cowgirl antics!

One needs coffee after a night like that!

On the weekend Shaina and Matt painted each others portraits :)

By noon it was –2°C, and we headed out in opposite directions — me to Calgary and S to Medicine Hat. As I rolled into the city, the temperature climbed above zero, which made for a pleasant drive… except for how much windshield washer fluid I went through. My poor car is going to need a serious bath.

First stop: the glass shop to get a new shower-door sweep cut. Then over to the mall to pick up gifts for my goddaughter and niece Mya — plus an iced coffee to keep me moving quickly.

At Winners, I restocked our coffee syrup, grabbed Himalayan salt, and treated our bathroom to new white bath sheets along with a few more gifts. I took a quick browse through HomeSense but turned right around — I do not need more “things” right now.

Next up: Costco, where I spent half an hour in line returning the two TVs and a couple other items, then almost two hours roaming the aisles. It got busy fast and that was my cue to escape.

Of course, it was full rush hour by then — ugh. I made a quick stop at Superstore hoping to find the seasonal Angie’s peppermint popcorn, but with no luck, I gave up and headed home, arriving around 6:30. After feeding Har, I unloaded the haul (always the hardest part of the trip) and finally sat down to enjoy rotisserie chicken with leftover pasta and veggies.

I finished and shared yesterday’s blog post, then dove into ordering family photos — so behind on those, especially with Christmas cards looming. B and Cooper popped out for a quick feed and short visit before heading home.

By 9 I wrapped up my computer work and climbed into bed to watch Champagne Problems, which was super cute. Now I want to see Paris at Christmastime!

Meanwhile, S delivered the tables safely to Mom and Dad K and spent the day visiting them and Candace. The planned bison butchering was cancelled due to butcher having truck troubles, so instead of heading to Oyen, he started home after 9. At least he got a family visit in — and the tables returned.

He rolled in around midnight just as I drifted off, and not long after he was asleep too.
