What a beautiful morning with full sun shining. Coffee on the deck which was followed up with fresh caught wild salmon and bacon wrapped scallops for breakfast. And a cold beer :) This place is highly recommended and would love to stay here again.
These shelves I thought Shaina might like to see
After checking out at 10 we hit the highway. My maps gave us a slight backtrack after changing to the wrong hotel. There was even an area on this highway with 110/MPH. It did not last long though. The highway across the mountains was mostly windy and slow.
This is
Cameron lake, look how still it is. Just like glass.
We stopped at Sproat lake for a pee break. This lake is beautiful and HUGE!!
We stopped a few times to see views and looped thru
Ucluelet and did some short hikes to the beaches.
S honing his surfing skills
On the lighthouse walk
Long beach was a beautiful stop. It was brisk and only 14 degrees but people were surfing. It did hit 19 thru the pass but a beauty sunny day.
Finally we have our sand beach vacation!!
We arrived in Tofino about 2 pm.
Hotel Zed is so very trippy- totally styled in the 70’s. All MCM furniture and decor. After dropping off our bags we went to the green shag carpeted sunken lounge for a drink and shared a soup and sand which. We checked out the hot tub sauna area and the oven inlet that was at low tide.
they have a mini disco
A 70's home/office area
retro working phones
and this outdoor hot tub and sauna area.
WE then set off to find the beach. It seems we missed the closest one but found Mackenzie beach. The tide being out allowed us to make our way south on the beach hoping to connect to the one across from hotel. No luck so back we walked eventually heading out On the main road. A turn to crystal cove had use checking out camping sites and cabins. Looks like our trail in this moderate season would be $175/nt, shoulder which is next at May 22 would be $215 and peak would be $280!!!!
someone did this sand drawing so I added our trip date
the tide is out allowing a walk way out and along the coastline
what a pretty outcropping of flowers on the black stone. Bloom where you are planted they say!
The route out had us looping back north from the same southern spot on the beach and back to hotel. We put on steps today! Time for a relaxing the funky leathers recliners and a cold margarita. S got in some of the hockey before we ventured out for supper.
We drove further into town to enjoy supper on the patio at Shelter. It was nice to have a heat lamp on the waters edge. I had salt spring mussels and S had the shrimp/mussel pasta. At the end he said guess the bill amount. I guessed $97.82 randomly and be damned it I was not .10 out!!`
After our meal we drove thru the sleepy seaside town. It reminded me of Hotel California town in Mexico or a few on the Hawaiian islands. There are no chains or big box stores here. Of course we stopped at the ice cream shop to get a maple walnut and a salted caramel ice cream for the ride back to the hotel. We took a few roads on route to see more of the town. Back at the hotel we walked out to the inlet to see the now full view.
In our room hockey was S entertainment for the rest of the night. I had a hot shower then put in my earphones to watch Queen Charlotte in the first and only king size bed.
