Today marks the second round of the Mexican bulls running amongst the humans. Additionally, it's Candace's birthday—cheers to that! We all savored our coffee in the sunshine, with S enjoying his cereal outdoors as well. As he was ready to head to his morning meeting, Corey and Danielle started their journey home. A heartfelt thanks to both for joining us and contributing to Sheldon's milestone 60th birthday memories.
I managed to update the blog a little through Notepad until S returned. We then headed to the infield for day three. The rodeo was intensely hot with plenty of action at the gates. Once again, we had a brief respite between managing the gates and preparing for the bulls. We managed to dash back for a quick cold drink with some helpers who awaited us at our trailer for their passes. S also picked up the cash and buckle for tonights winners. Today, the setup was naturally quicker with just a few new helpers, and fortunately, the weather was way more pleasant.
The event turned out to be an unpredictable spectacle once more. Two individuals were immediately injured and received medical attention inside the ring. The competition was limited to just two longer rounds again, carefully avoiding several of the larger bulls, although Donny suspected one had joined the fray. Remarkably, the injured parties were a husband and wife on vacation from the UK, with their children and parents spectating from the stands. The likelihood of such an incident is astonishing, yet they did not claim victory. Numerous other participants were struck, and ultimately, the organizers awarded first and second place instead of a prize for best costume.
The takedown went very smoothly. I collected Sheldon in the ranger from where he was setting up the lift for the chuckwagon cameraman. The volunteer dinner at the rodeo office was excellent tonight, so that's where Sheldon had his meal. Afterwards, we watched the chuckwagon races from our regular chute seats alongside some of the RWTB crew.
Another year in the books, with S is saying this is his final year. He's been at it for 21 years, and I believe it's been over 15 for me. Britt and Dave dropped Harley off and took her car just before 10, on their way back from the ranch. We spent some time visiting at the group tent and a campsite before calling it a night. Once again, I found myself watching episodes on my iPad.
