Another gorgeous trail ride in the Rockies

Brrr, it looks brisk today but still pleasant for October. After enjoying our coffees in bed, I worked on Monday's blog while S engaged in his usual online reading. B requested that I give the stalled horses some hay, which I did in my fluffy blue housecoat. Harley ran out of food, but this morning she received a pound of burger meat that a lady donated, which looked perfect despite being over a year old in her freezer. Lucky Harley.

We filled water bottles and packed a few snacks for today's trail ride at Bragg Creek. B was out before 10 with Cooper. S attached the horse trailer and backed it onto the grass after refueling. Dave came over to help her rebandage Basil's leg and move him to the barn paddock. Before doing so, he assisted us in catching Beibs after we had caught the other two. The dogs were kept inside for the day.

We departed for the mountains just past 10:30, leaving Dave to clean out his horses stall before starting his day. En route, B examined the map and charted a course along the north trails. After parking, we swiftly tacked up and set out. However, the north trails proved to be quite hard-packed and rocky, so after 30 minutes, we veered south. The detour led to a delightful 2.5-hour, 12-kilometer ride. Although the shaded areas were a bit chilly, the sunny spots offered the most enjoyment, especially with the temperature peaking at only 12 degrees.

such brave horses

only bunch of cows or wildlife at all other than grouse we encountered

Back at the parking lot area, we offered the girls watered but Beibs declined heading back over the bridge alone, what a good trail horse he is becoming.

Our untacking and loading up the horses was swift, with a brief 10-minute stop at the horse store Sheldon's old boss opened in Bragg Creek before heading home. We arrived after 4, unloaded the horses, tack, and other items. The dogs were overjoyed to see us. Dave came out shortly after we settled the horses in their paddock to give Basil another reward. Then, they departed for home by 5.

I uploaded photos and videos for Monday's extensive blog post while S vacuumed. After publishing, I realized there were more to add, so I quickly updated it, and now it's complete. S then went to town to pick up some tools to drill through the concrete and finish the chicken coop project. He also planned to drop off Shaina's Dyson hairdryer that I had packaged up this morning.

While enjoying a couple of turkey sandwiches, I completed some Duolingo lessons. S returned within the hour to have his dinner before our 7 pm Zoom meeting, followed by the big Flames hockey game. We did head out for a hot tub soak and saw Tony skulking around with J stalking stealthily along the deck but no ruckus ensued so maybe Tony coming and going now is less dramatic. As he watched the hockey game with our usual yogurt fruit bowls, I began a new series called 'The Cowboy Way,' watching three episodes before turning in for the night. Some aspects seem quite staged—typical reality TV—but the Alabama scenery and horses are quite enjoyable.
