It was an early start with me waking at 5 am - must be internal excitement seeing it has been almost 1 1/2 years since we got away on an airplane. At 6 S’s alarm went off. He had coffee set to auto start too. We were dressed, bags loaded and coffee in hand and out of the yard at 6:30. I booked Uber to meet us at Mercedes where we were dropping the car off for a recall. This is where the day started going off the rails- the key cafe had no code in email and being a Sunday no help. Finally we left the keys hidden on car wheel and took our ride to the airport. The car would not stay locked however if someone lifted the door handle as the key was so close ;( This was worrisome and had S leaving multiple messages with no answers.
Being prechecked we headed to security but it seems WestJet in the throws of a strike had all concourse passengers go to A. It took over an hour and 15 to get thru. They even moved us to the fast lane AKA nexus which I overhead the security guy say well a holder could take 5 friends!! I left my card at home because S's was expired and assumed all holders must pass the trusted traveler steps- not go with a friend. Not sure this is legit still.
We made it to our plan with 15 minutes to spare. I think a few did not make it ;( Our flight was uneventful and fast just over an hour. We landed and off to our car rental quickly. It was a sporty little silver Camry. The weather was overcast and threatening rain. First stop was to a quaint coffee shop for a delicious muffin and hot drinks. Thank goodness S had cereal before we left to get him this far. Here we also called an ex coworker Jerry who kindly drove from Airdrie to the airport to grab the key and take back on service date.
Butchart Gardens was enjoyed. It turned out there was a few drops of rain but by the time we had looped thru in over an hour the sun was out. Beautiful. The gardens just feel so relaxing.
We then headed to Victoria stopping at a liquor store as we passed for coffee creamer and beverages. Our hotel room was ready early so we checked in, parked our car and set out in the sunshine. It was such a gorgeous day.
Wharf video view from our table
We did a food and beverage tour starting at Milestones right on the wharf with wings and me - Bellini S - mango chili Caesar.
Next was The Local where Bud was $5 a can all day and the most delicious Ahi Tuna tacos.
Back across the street to Finn’s for their happy hour and the pork/prawn dim sum and cocktails. It was now about 5 so we stopped back at the hotel room to change and go next door to the Sticky Wicket Games room to watch hockey. They had happy hour till 6 so enjoyed their dry ribs and nachos with cold drinks.
After the Leafs lost in OT we came back to the room to relax . The 3rd hockey game of the day was on so S enjoyed in from the comfort of the bed I had a refreshing shower.
