We say goodbye to KD

I was awake at 7 but quietly reset things on my phone. It was already 19 at 8 ok so rousted the prince and he made coffee and had cereal. After feeding H, checking on KD and scooped stall and downing a cup we set off to load the dump trailer with  bales. I drove and lifted on the trailer while S stacked. We were near the house with 3/4 load when B and Cooper arrived so she got in to drive and we had 88 loaded in less then an hour.

how we load the top bales: team work

The trailer was parked in the arena and the ATV trailer hooked up and off we went for another 36 pulling off all the bales for us. The neighbor still has 80 to load. Back at the shop to park it we found the teepee had mice in it as we moved it so tried to get the cats to catch but no luck as too noisy when opened. Brenda and Keith were hooked up and stopped to say goodbye and meet KD then were off after 11.

mouse videos for you

B set up an outdoor pen b the shop and I helped her move KD and Pepper out so they could graze in the sun with the other horses nearby. I brushed her while B applied fresh poultice. S grabbed a lawn chair and hung out with us all too in the shade. Shaina arrived at 12:30 bringing us all an ice cap, thanks Dude.

S took a gopher round We all spent the day sitting with the horses taking a break to come in for the leftover chili then back out. S had a delivery of a gift basket from his work crew which was really nice. I watered the garden and filled the puppy pool, B cleaned out the stalls and S prepped some machinery for a few things to keep busy. He also went to the pit to dig a resting spot. The day was another scorcher but we were along the shade of the shop. Poop scooping was another chore. Shaina made beet pulp for KD who was so happy to be out in the sun with the breeze eating lush grass. The girls also gave her carrots and endless snuggles and words of affection. This fiery ginger will not be forgotten. See more memories of her HERE.

Harley wanted to comfort them too

Vet Ashley arrived as I was feeding H her supper. This was the hardest part of the day saying the final goodbyes. Many great memories were shared along with many tears. Ashley was off at 6 and after the other horses came to say goodbye Shaina headed home to the city having an event at 7. Sheldon and I got KD loaded and he took her to her final resting place. Such a sad day ;( Britt and Cooper headed home for a break. This has been so draining on B trying everything in her power to make KD better. She put in endless hours everyday and it was greatly appreciated the love and care she has for every animal we have.

Supper was simple raw veggies and shrimp. B came back out later as we sat on the deck. Dave arrived a bit later having had a great w/e of racing. He came in a get up honoring his horse Woody who made a super fast time today of 1:50 min becoming 8th horse in Canada to do so. And he was going to sell him but B talked him into giving him a second chance. Way to go B! After a visit we all hit the hot tub for a soak before they headed home.
