Stampede 2021

Looks like another hot day ahead letting H/opening garage out after 6 then waking at 8. I played a few games to get brain going then fed H and kitties while S made coffee. Kaylin text Lexi was able to get an appointment out at our vet at 11 and may stop after. It sure is a sad day at their house today for sure.

Once dressed for our stampede day I headed out to open up the winter pasture/paddock gate while S took the ranger to close the big gates at the pit. The water was put on the back flower bed were my one rose has wilt damage. We played some fetch with H too. As I was working on the blog I saw a fox near the house so S took the ranger out again but had no luck finding him once he heard the commotion. Time for couch reading time for big S.

Kaylin, Lexi and Devon arrived; Lexi has 2 ulcers on her eye, more meds and a follow up visit next week. K had leftovers and we all had kombucha but poor Devon has no appetite. This has rocked his world with first real loss and of course Theo was his best friend. Hopefully our visit helped him a bit. K checked out her coffee table and I found her a key for her dresser seeing she lost hers. They headed home at 1.

Britt had come out and was working on feet requesting a cold pop and my help with her trim on Roo. Back at the house I made Harley supper bowl up and put in fridge then S and I ate. B finished up roo and came in to get some cool temps at 2. S took the trap and set it in the winery with an old stinky pigeon he shot this week.

At 2:30 B loaded up Harley to take to her house for a play day while we attend Stampede. We were off soon after arriving at Shaina's in time to meet Jacob's little nephew they had been spending time with. Jacob was loading him up and taking him back to his parents in Priddis. We got a tour of Shaina's new little heritage apartment then walked to a local coffee shop for an iced coffee. Thanks Shaina for treating us. We continued our walk to Stampede park and she went back home to do her hair and wait for Jacob to get back.

checking out this crazy tracked truck before the bar

It was a hot one today at 31 on the way in but checking the home app it is 34. It felt even hotter on the pavement there. We did a loop thru the trade show then attempted to watch the dog show arriving for the last 30 seconds!! After a search for a cold drink we scanned the QR code at the big 4 and were 279 in line. The gal said the wait would be about 45 minutes max but after that time frame we had only moved to about 40 down the line. We decided to head back across the park to Duttons and wait in line there, it only took about 10 minutes and we were in. The place was abuzz with thirsty patrons. Shaina and Jacob arrived around 630 catching a wing each left from our pound. A couple cold drinks and we headed off to get our seats at the grandstand show. Being super keeners we saw the entire pre show and show lol.

checking the truck after the bar ;)

There was 3 types of horse rider relays. Watch the videos I took to share with you/

1- pick up a rider race

pick up a rider then watch his dismount :)

2 - ditch a rider hitch a rider

sometimes it does not go as planned

3 - pony express, man changes to fresh horse on the run

4- First Nations race

There was the Native relay, trick riders, Nicki and her liberty work, wild pony races and a 4 pc band that got lots of air time. Native dancers and contests and more before the actual show began. Jacob left before the actual grandstand show started to watch a UFC fight which had the one guy snap his ankle at the end of the first round! The really big show had acrobats, a comedian, solo native dancer, Terri Clark, motorcyclists and more. I took all these videos to share with you, I hope you enjoy.

just a fraction of the finale fireworks video

After the big fireworks finale we wandered the midway for a bit then walked back to Shaina's. A quick bathroom break and we made our way home arriving at 1 am where H was sleeping soundly after her big play day at B's then the ranch, THANKS B!
