Bandit scare again

The rain had stopped by 3:30 when I looked but started back up at 7 for about half an hour. I tried to get back to sleep but no luck. As I was perusing Instagram around 7:40  I heard a few banging noises. I looked out to check the shelters as usually horses bang their feet when crossing the bottom board. Closest shelter looked quiet. A few more bangs and I opened the window checking for sounds I heard it again. I went and got binoculars and could see Bandit's butt in the shelter but now the 3 other horses were prancing and on high alert to the noise. I jumped into some coveralls and headed out with Lola on my heels. Sure enough he was laying down but scrambling to get up and with his neurologic condition had real troubles. His back feet were kicking at the back wall and he was clearly in distress. He relaxes and laid out on his right side towards me but had his face now in a rain puddle. I had called Britt who had dropped everything and her and Dr Jordan would come. I was talking to him as well which always works with this stoic fellow but as I turned to go get a blanket to keep him warm he scrambled hard and after some real effort and stumbles he managed to get up, leap over the bottom edge board and lope over to Bird with the occasional Charlie Chaplin buck/kick. His back left leg was sore assuming from kicking at the shelter wall/studs to get himself upright.

see how he only circles right and how dirty he got in his struggle

I called Britt right back calling off their drive over. I ran to the mez and got hay to help warm them up and gave to all 4. This was short lived as they all wanted to graze. I came back and got the stethoscope to check for colic too. This all happened in short time frame. I had 2000 steps in by 8 o'clock! Back inside I made a cappuccino and watched carefully. Bandit other then his sore leg he flicked now and then was head down ass up grazing. B and I decided he was trying to nap or if had not gotten a nap in actually fell in the shelter (which happens with sleep deprivation) then lacking the coordination and only having one good side was cast. It really is a blessing I hear everything it seems.

I decided that the arena would be the perfect place to catch a rest if he could while keeping Bird with him. The stall seemed too small for his need to room to move. It was now back to drizzling rain so I headed out, caught them and took them inside. They were super happy to roll but Bird of course was to anxious to settle. After hooking up the overflow on the shop water tank I tied her to the side and cleaned cat poop to make use of my time watching. Eventually she was a bit calmer so I left them alone for an hour to chill and hopefully B could lay down and rest. On the way to the house I checked rain gauge to find 4/10ths more with a light drizzle continuing.

I left them for an hour or so while I did my marketing and had a 2nd cap. After 12 I went out, brushed off Bird put her blanket on and released them into the drizzle. Off they went to graze and a little later on Bird to nap mid field. If only he would to be sure he was getting a rest in. This time on my way back I spent time weeding as they pull out quite easy after 2" of rain.

Inside it was plant watering time and repotting of a succulent. then staying on the planting mode I ventured out in the rain to plant my garden with seeds I forgot I had in the garage fridge. I planted carrots, zucchini, 2 varieties squash , peas (from Craig's fields), cilantro and dill. I also have volunteer spinach coming up but will plant some more in a few days.

Kaylin, Lexi and Shaina arrived just before 3 loaded with laundry and stuff to store in their rooms. Shaina even gave hers a cleaning out and purged 4 boxes of clothes, makeup and bags for the wag staff girls. The soup was put on for an early supper at 3:30. Kaylin kindly did my sugaring next while Shaina cleaned. I threw in a load of laundry in the dryer that may have had items not deemed for the dryer :( sorry Dude. I cheered on Shaina while Kaylin loaded other items into the storage trailer.

Britt and Cooper arrived after 7 to feed and check horses. Low and behold she found Daisy lame on her front left. I hauled out the vet kit with butte and water then fixed up the stall with fresh hay, shavings and water. She had the shivering girl blanketed, gave butte, And poultices her leg. She was put in the stall for the night but after B finished checking the rest she decided to put her back out seeing she was pacing and hollering.

K and S packed up clean laundry and items to go to Banff house along with Lexi and were off at 8:30. B was off soon after taking a bowl of soup to go. I whipped up a smoothie, did some marketing, Scrabble and started season 2 of Selling Sunset. It has been a long busy day.
