Beach ventures

Fresh Kona coffee started our day along with fresh pineapple and a stroll around our grounds

We packed up some drinks and snacks, got the beach chairs and headed out for our days venture.

Our first stop was Kahalu'u beach. S ventured out to snorkel while I sat with all our goodies. Check out the Big Island Beach list, he gave this snorkel area a thumbs up, I found the beach crowded.

our condo provided these fancy new full face masks, we brought our own but today was the test drive

Further south we stopped at Keauhou Bay, parking near a path to hike down to the cliffs. On the south side some folks were pondering cliff jumping  but took to long as this area was all lava and so hot we eventually were off.

But even in the lava plants grow and bloom, look at this weed blooming where it was planted.

Driving farther south we aimed for Captain Cook monument but ended up at Honaunau Bay, a very popular snorkel spot nicknamed Two Step. Here we set up camp next to the black lava rock area while S was off again to see under the sea. This was one of his fav snorkel spots on the island.

Crazy, the Puuhonua O Honaunau (Ho-now-now) national park gate was not manned when we arrived but was when we finished the snorkeling portion. ($15/car admission) We did take a walk thru...  but man it was hot (32 ish). The walls in this national park were built in 1500’s 10’ high and 17’wide in places, no mortar, just stacked, wow.

Back to the Jeep we took a drive a bit father to the south within the park to the beach area. Very pretty but again all lava.

Our next route was to head back north to see the painted church but after many wrong turns we found another church with locked gates but seen lots of pretty views along the way. (We did find the real painted church south a few days later)

Time to head back to the condo for some relax time at our sandy viewing area. I did drift off for a bit but was back to the condo leaving S to get a good nap. These sunny days really drain you. I whipped us up some slushy drinks and more spinach salad while he warmed a rack of precooked ribs for our supper. He was then cozy on the lanai while I kicked back in jumbo big brown to finally catch up on the blog post for last few days.
