991 - furniture sanding and redos!

Day 991 up and making coffee for Dale and cereal for Vance at 8:30. A quick visit before they were off to hockey at 9:30. I headed to the garage to get started. The tables had a few wee areas on the lip that did not fully cover so I fiddled with them yesterday and then again today but for some reason it went matte and then marks showed on the top so I steel wooled it and applied another coat. This will turn out to be a bad move.

Caylie and Jason arrived at 11 from the Hat to pick up their nursery furniture. The weather was a balmy plus 5 but had the chinook wind. The sun popped out soon after they left. I was back in the shop working now on sanding and repairing the tall old dresser. Britt booked tan times and she drove us in for 12:30 with a  quick stop at the bank then back home.

At 2:30 a huge wind hit along with rain creating a crappy next hour and half but at 4 the sun was back out.

look where my barbecue is at

I worked on sanding down the dresser drawer fronts as well as a general sand on the main frame then started the solid oak end tables. Holy this was an undertaking and the first one took 2 hours to sand even with stripper but the 2nd one I used more stripper and it took only an hour.
here is the piece tony made that was broken when he sold it to me, not bad

The table was still looking mat, no where near the shiny clear finish and in my usual panic I called Minwax. The fellow was not much help really first telling me it should go on shiny and clear and stay like that then said it may take over 8 hours to go clear. By 8 hours it was the same so I grabbed the stripper and completely took it back to the wood, sanded and applied the first coat again!! All because there was a wee area on the lip edge..OH MY!! The pickles I get myself into and I gave her a deal since I did not think I would have to glaze and wax :-)
Dale and Vance got back about 9 as did Gail to watch movies with Shaina. Snacks, beverages a visit then they were off to bed while I updated the blog.
Sheldon sent his hardship camp supper.. boooo I should have sent a bowl of chili back! yes there is a steak under the heaps of mushrooms and king crab and shrimp, tough life he has!
